an fun indeed it was.
C woke complaining of a sore throat I essentially told him that's nice have some tylenol & juice you'll be fine when you get going-it is allergy season & all. He ate breakfast just fine and was his normal crazy self at the bus stop with his friends. I went off to work only to get a call from MIL the school had called her and C was sick needed picking up. Now she is an emergency contact for him and in fact was available to pick him up but I was a little put off that they had called her first I am his mother and all..So called up to the school only to find out C had suggested calling her first because I was at work. Alright fine in the future I get the first phone call.
Work was busy especially since I will be out for 4 days next week. I think I covered most bases although I need to shoot off a few emails at some point before Monday. The co-worker I am traveling with was getting on my nerves a lot I really hope she snaps out of it before we travel. I was dithering about what time to meet in the morning you see this is a Bristol weekend and it always is or at least has been for the 10 years or so that I have been traveling to Vegas on this specific weekend. This means the airport is a little bit crazy with race fans returning to whence they came. I mentioned all this and later in the day got the "Bubba(her annoying boyfriend also a co-worker) well he's from Bristol and says we shouldn't worry about the extra people" really does he fly this weekend every freaking year? dumb a**! We are still gong early to the airport.
Ran a few errands pre-travel stuff I have more today after David gets off work. C just has a cold nothing too exciting but no need to drag him around K-town.
Dinner at MIL's-shrimp, fried fish(snapper maybe) & oysters very yummy stuff hung out with nieces and nephew plus BIL & SIL an enjoyable evening but I took the kiddo home around 8-ish to get him home & in bed. Got home let superpug out to romp in the yard, got knock on door several minutes later he had escaped and neighbor call caught him. No biggie saw where I thought he had wriggled out of gate, fixed area put him back out. David came home we watched some tv about to head to bed, went to let Oscar in and no Oscar. I luckily noticed the message light flashing on the phone-someone the next street over had found him wandering and took him home so he did not get run over! so I went and met them half way to retrieve our crazy pug. This morning I discovered the other gate a little askew which I was his escape route so fixed that and no more Houdini tricks. I hope.
Lot's of laundry on tap for today, need to clean some, pack and still do some shopping. i really need a pedicure & maincure but am thinking I might splurge at the spa at Bally's tomorrow afternoon.

Vegas baby! Vegas!
I must admit Swingers was one of those OMG what a great movies that eh I can take it or leave it I don't really get the appeal.
Now Vegas itself I get the appeal. I am fortunate to have the opportunity to go on a buying trip there each summer. Although industry and store situation being what they were I didn't get to go last summer so I am excited about this year's trip! And in spite of what thenaysayer hubs says I do go for work 4 convention centers worth of product in fact. It doesn't all apply to our store but it is so much fun to wander the booths. So work during the day and at night it's Vegas the restaurants, shows, casinos and gambling-the grown-ups Disney. I am not exactly a card shark but blackjack is fun and in spite of slots being a waste of time I am under the (probably misguided) impression that one day I will hit it big-I did win $400 once not exactly really big but better than a slap in the face 'ya know.
Pre-C days David would come out with me but for the past several years I have been going by myself which does not bother me in the least. I actually enjoy the alone time but this year I got talked into bringing along a co-worker and I am really hoping that won't be a mistake. Oh well I suppose if it is it'll be just that much more to blog about right? positive spin right?
So have a million and one things to do before we leave on Sunday both here at work and at home not least of which is deciding the wardrobe and co-ordinating shoes. MAGIC is a major fashion event can not show up looking slubby, need to hit the bookstore long travel days need some new stuff to read plus I need to get a bag for the laptop can't leave home with out that now can we? And to top it all off C got sent home from school early with a sore throat today, no fever or anything so I am hoping it is no big deal!

baby watch 2008
no no not me we have covered the whole we are just having the one child thing haven't we?
Niece #1 is the one being watched-this is her first and as luck would have it she is here in K-town for the summer while her hubs is at drill Sergeant school in the Carolinas.
And I say luck in spite of the fact that it was the fender bender that put on early baby watch-she is only around 30 weeks and is actually due the end of October. Since the wreck she has been dilating and intermittently contracting, spent a week in the hospital and is now at home on bed rest but the doctor's visit yesterday had her dilated to 6 cm with the baby's guesstimated weight at just under 4 lbs.. So we are expecting baby anytime now-her hubs doesn't get back to town till next week and her baby shower is on the 30th although it could very well be more of a baby's already here kind of party!

meet the teacher part II
so last night was Parent's Night at School for the third graders. Well not the third graders the parents of third grades they discourage bringing your child along which is actually kind of a pain but luckily MIL picked C up and checked homework, fed him, paid him for just being cute? near as I can tell anyway I am not sure if he helped around the house or not last night.
I had silenced my phone and had 1/2 dozen calls from home David forgot it was parent's night even though I did tell him and wrote it on the calendar in the kitchen not to mention he could have called his mom & found C right away. Amusingly he had left his phone at work so he could not get my text message and just kept calling me-goofball.....
Love going to events at the schools although the parking lot over at the new campus is much larger than the Primary school you may have to walk but at least you can find a space to park in. Then there are the crazy parents who 5 minutes before the event are racing around the circle up front expecting a space? or parking on a curb or sidewalk because they are too lazy to walk any sort of distance. Trust me you are no more important than any of the rest of us.
Had the little PTA spiel and little speech by the principal & the vice-principals then got to go to our child's classroom. after making it through the herd of parents to the classroom went to C's desk and some dad was already sitting there with his wife the parent's of the girl who sits next to C. I loved that he seemed genuinely confused that I would want to sit at my son's desk and look through his desk & journal much like his wife was doing at their daughter's desk. They had grabbed my orientation packet so I had to ask for it back as well. I was polite(with my luck C will wind up marrying this girl or something) but I sort of felt like smacking him in the back of the head.
I liked the teacher she admitted to not being good in front of a room full of parents which may explain why she was not so chatty the very first day but I thought she did fine. Can see where C might think she is strict she seemed no nonsense yet friendly and very personable. I was suitably impressed that she is computer savvy gave her email out, the class has a web page, the whole nine yards. I realize that not everyone has a computer but I was appalled when C was in first grade to not get any response from his teacher to an email. I eventually sent in a note and was told that was the best way to reach her. Then last year when the teacher was getting parent's info I had to suggest including emails in the parent list! Luckily not an issue this year hooray! Honestly you have a better chance of reaching me through email than you do calling my home phone. And I do not know how once again C has lucked into a not big into homework sort of teacher but he has! She gives 1 sheet a night says it should take them no longer than 20 minutes and nothing on Fridays. She gave us links for the text books so the kids don't have to carry them home to study or anything all assignments will be handouts. I think it's great but I still can not believe how lucky he has been.

my summer of 1989
yet another meme, I had a feeling when Chris tagged my brother Chris this might be headed my way...
So yeah summer of '89 not exactly a great summer, a pivotal one but not a particularly happy one. This was the summer I did not graduate from college. This was back in the olden days before 5-6 years became the norm for college students. My brother had his own stuff going on as well that summer & my parents were at that point more than eager to become empty nesters.
I found myself moved back home with the expectation I would attend the local university. I was miserable & home and my hometown was the last place I wanted to live and to add to the insanity I was under the mistaken impression that because I was 21 I was an adult and I knew everything. Things were tense at best around the house. And oddly enough I did not know everything
My summer did intersect some with my brother's-not really a shock or anything we are siblings and all- I attended several of his extravaganzas & was in fact the beer source not funding just purchase with the trade out being cartons of cigarettes let's just say I didn't have to buy many of my own cancer sticks that summer.
I was working full time at the cookie place in the mall and began to hang out with my manager and his boyfriend who ran one of the record stores. No not a typo yes it was a gay couple. They had a fun group of friends but I regrettably started distancing myself from friends, many I had known since grammar school. It took my 20th high school reunion to reconnect with most of those girls. I suppose that falls under the if I only knew then what I know know sort of categories.
It wasn't all doom & gloom got to see New Order, PIL & the Sugarcubes in concert that summer also went up to Saratoga Springs and saw Elton John. There was a great amusement park in Saratoga and another not far in MA that we went to several times.
By the end of summer I had moved out of my parents house & in with my new friends. That friendship would eventually lead me to music retail, Knoxville and indeed David which lead to C and Oscar the superpug.
I am going to pass it along to Jenni and Anna and Pete and Allison you could do really short ones on twitter...

rountine of things
summer is most definitely over for us and we are well back in the thick of things.
-Last week was the first week of school and C also started back at tae kwan do after his summer hiatus. This was the first time he took the summer off but with scheduling the way it was we found it too difficult to make classes so dropping it temporarily was the easiest fix. I was surprised that it won't put him behind in belt testing at all and he will test for the next belt in September and if I am not mistaking it will be his red belt? maybe black tip?
-Yesterday morning we signed C up for CCD-the Catholic version of Sunday school-and I am standing by my assertion that it should be on Sundays but they apparently don't agree with me. I must admit to spending each and every Wed evening wishing he was going to Catholic school
-Fall Ball started yesterday and practice is on Sunday afternoons! We do have a few Wednesday practices but only for the first 2 weeks and thankfully before CCD starts up. Spring baseball was difficult for about a month while the 2 overlapped, C would go to CCD is his baseball uniform and we be a little late for practice each week. Games start just after Labor Day.
-Basketball-yes I am going to let him add it to the mix this year I believe sign-ups are in October by which time baseball will be over
-school starts for me next week as well-class twice a week plus a lab
David has already started fussing that we need to drop something but that is not going to happen at this point. MIL has been conscripted to help with chauffeuring duties plus with BIL in town as well I think we will manage just fine-at least that's what I am hoping for!
