hide & seek with..

the Nazis. I find this stuff really fascinating! Many years ago there was a great article about missing & stolen art looted by the Nazi's in Vanity Fair and it led me to what has become one of my favorite books The Rape of Europa by Lynn Nicholas.
I'll have to try and find it this weekend and reread it..

grumpy little friday

really thought about hitting the snooze back and going back to sleep this morning but I had breakfast plans with one of my co-workers and I did not have her number to call and cancel plus the boy had to go to school or something lame like that..
Had a bit of coffee and started to feel like a human-sort of then I headed off the the Shoney's Breakfast bar and all is nasty greasy goodness. It was yummy and lots more coffee was had.
Now I have a screaming headache which is always fun-at least it isn't a migraine I don't have any medication with me- changed purses and all recently luckily I do have prescription ibuprofen which usually works pretty quickly.
In summation I am whiny and cranky today but looking forward to a lovely facial and massage tomorrow courtesy of my hubby for putting up with him I think is the reason :)
oh thank God the ibuprofen is indeed kicking in

do I need a translator?

find your hat and gloves-is that not straight forward and self-explanatory enough?
find your hat and gloves-s to denote plural meaning more than 1
C went to school looking like Michael Jackson except that C is darker skinned than Mr Jackson.

circus

ok yes yes I know they are horrible, animal cruelty, blah blah blah but I LOVE THE CIRCUS
or I did when I was a kid. Absolutely loved going it was always one of those things only Dad would do with us we would take the train down to the city, have breakfast then go to the circus. It would include a trip to the "smelly" room back in the day you would be able to go see the animals cruelly penned up in cages(yes ok I know it's horrible) but you can't do that any longer now you go 1 hour and early and can meet some clowns, see an elephant, meet a camel down in the rings. We'd get the program, popcorn, cotton candy those twirly flashlight things which they don't have any more I guess way too many head injuries with that one. Clowns, monkeys on motorcycles, bears, Gunther Gebel-Williams what was not to like?
So when C was 3 and the circus came to town I bought tickets of course D being superior as he can be a times informed me C was way too young but he would go along with us. Of course the jerk was right( and I mean jerk in the nicest possible way-love ya babe!) C was not interested and quite frankly seemed a little scared so we did not stay for the entire show. Over and above that the circus was just bad and boring. A disappointment all around. An expensive disappointment all around. I have tried each year to coax the boy into going but no dice he has no interest. MIL offered to buy tickets for us this year but I got a "no thanks Mommy"
oh well maybe I'll go on my own...

good grief

so at work we are joining facebook
yes we are geeks
join us
like I have nothing better to do with my time....
evidently not!
but in mere minutes I already have 3 friends
and found my brother on there-not that he was lost or anything

camping

yes we are going to go camping again this spring. I believe a weekend is in the works. Shocking to those who know my view of camping is a hotel without room service! We had a good time last spring and I am really looking forward to going again-it's a good group of people and there will be more kiddies this time for C to pal around with. After last year I have a better idea of what we will and won't need to bring along and first on my list is blow up mattress oh and a camping coffee press! camping is better with caffeine.
I believe the steak on a stick is indeed a culinary treat is worth repeating. About smores & roasted marshmallows they are just gross I do not like them but I think they are a requirement while camping...

baseball season is fast upon us

and "tryouts" were Saturday morning. I say "tryouts" yes with the annoying air quotes because we've paid our fees, the check has been cashed the boy will play baseball, they were really evaluations which I must say it seemed a little sublime at this level of baseball. C is playing machine pitch again, it is one league up from playing with dirt and picking flowers in the outfield but they have "evaluations". Around 20 maybe 30 coaches sat at long tables while each boy ran the length of the gym, hit a few balls then fielded a bit. I guess we get a call later this week to find out which team C was picked for. I am hoping it will be the same group of coaches he played for this past fall they were a good group of guys that let the boys still have fun hell they're only 7-8 not quite ready for the UT scouts just yet...
There was one coach last fall in this league who was a little too gung-ho for my tastes, way too aggressive for the age group he would storm about the field with his blue tooth firmly soldered to his head yelling out alligator each inning we still don't know what it meant. Our coach's wife & I were going to make something up to yell out to our kids when they were in the outfield I believe we came up with watermelon.
I am really hoping this is not our coach....
