grandpa's boy

when C was younger coming to CT to visit with my parents was quite frankly exhausting, they did not particularly baby proof anything, they live in a split level house so the 2 flights of stairs were part of the amusement, up and down, up and down like I said exhausting. I always felt like I needed a vacation from vacation. One trip up C became Dad's shadow and has never stopped. He follows grandpa around like a puppy dog always wanting to know where Dad is, what he is doing, what he is going to do, if he needs help, he wants to show Dad his current Lego ship, a book he is reading you name he is just 2 steps behind his beloved grandpa. My Dad loves it and loves the boy but sometimes well C can be a bit much as all kids can and Dad doesn't want to hurt his feelings. A sentiment he did not embrace as a parent, as no parent does quite frankly. I love my boy, think he is funny, smart etc but sometimes he needs to be told to buzz off for a minute or two he can be overwhelming when you are trying to get laundry done, dinner made or make a phone call.
I find it amusing to watch but generally step in and talk C down and away from Dad so he can do whatever it was he wanted to do without assistance.

shopping bags part deux

apparently I have more to say on the topic.
-most of the time I forget them at home prompting me to buy more while out shopping, a dastardly plan to get me to spend more money
-I also tend to leave them at other people's houses
-Fresh Market never re-stocked on their cute bags and my Mom really likes the one I gave her so I'm not getting that back
-baggers seem to think they need to fill the bags so entirely full that you can't carry them, they don't do it with the plastic so why with the canvas?
-ran to the grocery store last night had to buy one here of course
-they gave me a 5 cent reusable bag credit which is a cute idea and in the long run I am sure costs them nothing

if you fly

is it really road tripping?
I suppose we did drive from NY to CT so small road trip involved. As we left the house just before 5 this morning I did not have a chance to check weather and such and did not know it had been raining cats & dogs up here-to the point the people had spent the night at LaGuardia etc.
We were lucky landed a little bit late but not so much so. LaGuardia was a zoo even more so than usual which made sense after I found out about the weather. Traffic getting out of the city & Westchester took some time but we still made it to Mom & Dad's by 10:30ish and Mom was evidently surprised to see us that early. Who knew? Not me...
I always get a kick out of flying up because generally speaking they hire a car & driver to pick us up & deliver us to their doorstep and we get the little sign, granted he spelled the name wrong but so many do, hard to believe my maiden name was easier. Going to the airport was so much more fun "back in the old days" (READ AS PRE 9-11)when you could hang out at the gate watch planes take off etc I remember many a time dropping off or picking my grandmother up and it was always fun. Now not so much an event any longer and more of a drop off or pick up at the door sort of thing no need to waste time by parking and going in the building.

mommy of the year

yup not winning that one again. This morning got up got the boy up at O-dark-hundred, he was dragging out of bed doing his whole oh my belly hurts routine and verbatim from me
I don't care if you throw up we are flying today regardless so get your butt out of bed and move.
So he threw up. Not sure what prompted it but he has been out of sorts most of the day thus far. You can tell he was sick and this wasn't just an over excited sort of thing first of all he has refused food more than several times today, he did not drink his soda on the flight, he did not play his nintendo ds either. In fact he slept most of the flight and the drive to my parent's house as well. We manged to get him to eat some toast and drink some ginger ale so we'll see, not a fun way to start a vacation though.

leaving on a jet plane

on our way to CT via NYC right well about now

I really am the queen of stats!

holy crap I got an A
yes I got an A
once again A
I think I might be in shock. I also think if I take anything more challenging than basket weaving in a summer session course someone should slap me or a the very least shake me really hard....I really want to call my mom but don't want to wake her, I suppose I'll wait an hour or so just in case.
one more time an A-there will be no living with me today and considering my goal was to just pass the class after the first week I have impressed myself.
wow not many places you can go celebrate at 6.56 in the morning.
I really thought I had messed up the final, having been sick all flippin weekend I did not get in the study time I wanted to and after the exam I was unhappy because I knew I had screwed up one question pretty bad and in my head I knew it was one problem and you still get point for work it's math answers are not simply right or wrong but I had convinced myself I would be lucky to eek out a C but no no an A.
OK I m done gloating for now and I can proudly tell C that mommy indeed did get an A

the pox

and yes I did have the chicken pox as a junior in high school. My mother had exposed us to pox as little kids-this was back in the old days before there was an immunization for it-but my brother turned up with it in 7th grade and passed it right along to me-oh joy.
I had to put off my license test(or re-test actually, perhaps another story for another day) and in fact when I did get my first drivers license I had pox marks on my forehead. On the upside I got a week off from school-or did I? My mom taught at the very same high school I went to, lucky huh? Lucky that she could bring me my work each and every day I was home sick. ...and even better I remember taking a test on the kitchen table that week!

first concert

mine was Adam Ant, the Romantics opened for him, I must have been a junior in high school as I did indeed go to my first concert with chicken pox(thanks ever so much Chris).
Yesterday morning I read that Smashing Pumpkins were playing a date here in town, mentioned to D(he is a big fan , I like them well enough but not well enough for a $50 ticket), it was no sooner out of my mouth and C pipes up he wants to go and he'll pay for his own ticket and he indeed could pay for his own ticket, on any given day he has more cash on hand that D & I combined. For a brief flash I considered letting him go but it is on a school night and my 8 year old 3rd grader is not missing school because he was out late at a show. It is not a note I am willing to write just yet.
Regardless it will be a boys night out D and his brother JJ are going to go-JJ will creep into blog more now that he has officially moved back to K-town. Currently he will be residing with his mother. I am putting together a board to see how long folks think it will last-if 'ya want a piece of the action email me

the wonderous curing powers of pizza?

woke up this morning feeling even worse having real problems swallowing and I spent a large part of the day in bed with C as nursemaid, D had to work so the boy kept checking on me and more importantly just behaving, he really is a wonderful kid!
We had food at the house for dinner but all of involved defrosting or cooking & I wasn't about to get in a car and go anywhere so I ordered pizza for the boy. When it got here it smelled good I was hungry for something besides chicken noodle soup so I thought what the hell and had a piece, I also managed to wrestle a couple of the chicken dippers away from C, coupled with the burn of the canned soda my throat started to improve. And what is is about canned soda? That burny sort of feeling is so good. Anywho throat still hurts a bit but I am feeling loads better.
Got a little bit of studying in not as much as I would have liked but I am going to split from work a little early to try and study some more and hope for the best tomorrow night!
