for the second time this week I have peered out my window to find that once again the local meteorologists got it wrong. Shocking. Yes blah blah plateau, weather patterns, seriously how many times can you be so wrong and still have a job?
Sadly I knew it would not snow. How can I predict such things you may ask. Is she psychic? Is she secretly a meteorologist? No. A human barometer-my knee did not hurt. Is this really a perk of getting older?
It's not that I enjoy snow but 1 or 2 a season would be nice. Poor C last time he got to play in snow was 2 years ago in CT when were home for thanksgiving, made a snowman got to sled a little but since then nothing! My parent's house has a great hill in the front yard for sledding, my brother & I would meet up with friends and spend hours outside playing, come in near frostbitten and warm up with hot chocolate with the teeny marshmallows. I also seem to remember a weird phase when one of my friends decided we should try adding american cheese to the hot cocoa, why I don't not recall and in fact I did not recall doing that until just now as I was typing-we were kids it was the 70's for God's sake, people tried things!?

for those that are local and know where I work-if you are offered a free DE tee shirt just say no. trust me.
cigarettes
I am an ex-smoker. An ex-2 pack a day smoker. I officially quit in 1995 when after knee surgery D refused to get me cigarettes, I was also on percocet which seemed to help with the nicotine craving, oh and the knee pain as well. For the next 10 years I would smoke when we went to bars or had pretty much any alcoholic beverage, when in Las Vegas, when I hung out with a smoking friend or was particularly stressed about something my "stash" pack would last usually a month or more. A few years ago I completely stopped altogether and I honestly cannot remember the last time I had a little cancer stick.
The other day I walked past someone who had just lit up & I must admit the smell made me sort of crave one.
My husband coming in from a bar last night made me glad I do not smoke anymore. Good grief I could smell him as soon as he came into the bedroom, the smell of smoke just coming out of his pores & from his hair and clothes. bleech gross

it's a good thing I love the kid
because he literally drives me crazy! Last night at Tae Kwan Do C was receiving his brown belt so Mee-Maw came along to watch & she was going to take us out to Texas Roadhouse to celebrate, the roadhouse being one of C's all time favorite restaurants. He is only 7 after all. His class ends at 6.15 so mee-maw was concerned that dinner would be too late should we go to Wendy's? C jumped at that he has a thing for the spicy chicken sandwich, which in all fairness is pretty good but it's still Wendy's. I said no because I wanted a real dinner plus we could get something to go for D who was still at work. I drove over to get a table, while C went with mee-maw, they show up at the restaurant with a Wendy's dinner for C. I wanted to throttle him-I told him that Tx Roadhouse was the treat, Wendy's is something we pick when mommy doesn't want to cook. He was all cute and snarky about getting mee-maw to buy him what he wanted and getting one over on me till I pointed out that since he was not having Tx Roadhouse for dinner there would be no big 'ol brownie-which I think is one of his favorite things about going to the restaurant.
His eyes got real big "but I didn't know mommy"
well you do now kiddo..

insurance
now don't get me wrong I am grateful to have insurance, really good insurance I have no idea how people manage without. That being said the industry is clearly crazy.
I went in October to have my check-up when I got there the nurse called me back warned me that it was just under a year since I had my last pap smear so I might want to reschedule my appointment for a few weeks later so I did-the day before C had his surgery in fact, not the best day for it but it all worked out ok. Imagine my surprise to get a bill in the mail for said treatment to the tune of $180-alright $165 I had already paid my co-pay.
I called the insurance today to find out what was going on because I had not seen paperwork from them yet-oh well how old was I. Fine 40 currently but I was 39 the day of the appointment-well that was the problem the doctor's office billed it with the 40+ coding they need to refile under a different code.
Seriously they are going to quibble over 17 days?

batten down the hatches people
I heard the "S" word on the weather forecast this morning.
One of the thing I dislike about this area and the remote possibility of snow fall besides the inevitable rush at the grocery stores is the knee jerk reaction to close school at the vaguest hint of a snowflake. Now as I a child I am sure I would love it especially since they don't really get snow days here. I do remember the excitement & anticipation listening to the radio waiting to hear Danbury make the list of cancellations. We also had delays up north-it would start an an hour go to 90 minutes & then 2 hour delay but generally speaking once you hit 2 hour it was more than likely they would cancel for they day. I had my own gauge-you would turn on the back porch light & "measure" the snowfall guessing & hoping for that the next morning that you would have a day off so you would not have to finish your homework.
