adventures in parenting

yesterday while I was trying to get C to eat breakfast he complained about being soo tired because he woke up in the middle of the night and could not go back to sleep. I pointed out that he was asleep when I got him for breakfast then I asked why he didn't just get up & turn his music on-Queen's greatest hits is currently in rotation these days. Then the conversation turned to well X was talking about ghosts and X actually saw a tee shirt floating above his bunk bed. At first I thought about how to answer this one and went with the there are no such things as ghosts don't believe everything X tells you. No need to get into a philosophical discussion when I was trying to get him on a bus. Which for some reason has been difficult all week yesterday he hadn't washed his face, combed his hair, made his bed or been able to find a hat & gloves. In my exasperated mommy rountine I told him that the next day he was getting up early and I didn't want him talking till he was ready to go.
This morning he was doing a great job eating etc which I pointed out and just got a smile & nod. Shortly after he followed me in the bedroom and handed me a note explaining that he couldn't talk because I had told him not to...So I had to explain that I did not literally mean he could not talk but at least he was completely ready and on time

well now that is just gross

so I am a buyer for a local record store and yes we actually do sell records as well as cds, dvds and everything else under the sun or so it seems as I am responsible for buying amongst other things the everything under the sun part of our inventory.
We carry some really stupid stuff, some of it sells some does not it can be very hit or miss at times.
I thought I had hit an all time low last year with bacon mints-they are repulsive or so I assume the smell made me, well let's just say tasting them was not going to happen. Oddly enough someone was buying them from us.
Today I hit an all new low crickettes. Yes crickettes sour cream & onion, bacon & cheese or salt & vinegar flavored crickets.
I will not be trying these either

wacky weather

so Tuesday is was what mid-60s?
Wed. morning it was chilly and rainy no big deal got C on the bus and went to work, turned the radio on to hear a forecast of sleet, snow & rain first I asked where exactly-I know my parents were having rotten weather but they live in CT it's suppose to happen up there. No no they meant in Knoxville and allegedly there were some flurries but I never saw any. I did frantically keep checking the school system web site they seem cancel school at the hint of snow but luckily nothing. In the afternoon I was headed to pick up the boy get him fed & off to religion class when I got the phone call from his teacher class was cancelled due to weather?????
ok still don't know what everyone was going on about the roads were clear no precipitation of any kind going on but I'll go with it...
In a related problem do you know how hard it is to find a winter coat in mid-February? Almost impossible if we needed shorts or tee shirts or even flip-flops we're good but winter coat um no!
I thought C would make it through the season with his coat but evidently I was wrong. I found one marked down but probably a little big at Walmart this morning it'll do in a pinch. I can tell you Target, Goody's & Kohl's have nothing. I guess we can try the mall this weekend or actually we might have better luck at Goodwill maybe?
On the Walmart front I thought I would pick up some Valentine's candy for the gang at work so I dropped by the aisle only to find Easter candy going up!!! I know it is early this year but Easter is not until March 23rd people! Can we not at least get through Valentine's Day?
On a tragic Valentine's day note we missed Charlie Brown this year-I have no idea when it was on or even if it was on? I might need to break down and buy the dvd.

tales from the lunchroom

let me just say I still find cafeterias somewhat novel. I started catholic school in the 5th grade and our school did not have any sort of lunch room it was strictly brown bag/lunchboxes and we ate at our desk. My last year or so there they were big into having hotdog day once a month and we would get herded down to the kitchen by class and could purchase hotdogs-always big doings as mom would let us bring soda to drink those days, her method of keeping it "cold" was to wrap the can in a paper towel and cover it with foil but I digress.
In kindergarden C seemed into buying lunch at first but for the most part stuck with bringing a lunch from home. In first grade it was the opposite he brought lunch and shifted to buying everyday of course we had a spell where I had to pack a lunch he would get to school change his mind, buy lunch and bring what I packed home. At least he gave me the food back my brother at a young age went through a hide your sandwich under your bed phase-maybe he was just growing penicillin who knows?!
This year C started out buying but has shifted back to bringing from home. Now in part it might be because his best friend always brings food from home and also C did not like having to wait in the long lines to get his food but mostly I think the shift had to with C not getting enough to eat. It is like packing a meal for a longshoreman or something. I amazed he has enough time to eat all the food he brings. If he is eating this much now I seriously wonder what in the hell is going to happen when puberty hits? D & I will have to get 2nd & 3rd jobs to feed this kid!

I had lots to blog about today

till I discovered myself on the nespapaper's blog site. Then I debated how vague I could be and still make the stories amusing. Then I realized maybe only I would find the stories amusing in the long run anyway....
the place of my employment is frickin nuts and we should just leave it at that.

weekend the abridged version

-came home friday and my hip hurt serious can't sleep sort of hurt miserable night all around and I slept like crap
-Saturday up early(see above) took lots of ibuprofen
-C was up at 7 a.m. looking for breakfast right away
-by 9:10 he was looking for lunch
-C had a birthday party in the afternoon so we headed over to Walmart-not a great idea early on a pretty Sat afternoon. good grief!
-had to give the little no we are not buying you anything speech we are getting a gift for your friend
-bought some absorbine jr why jr what was absorbine sr?
-and why does it have to smell like that?
-dropped kiddo at party and did not stay I like that he is older and I feel comfortable doing that now
-spent most of the rest of Saturday sleeping
-cut the hell out of my finger opening a can my first thought was dammit D-he has a thing about can openers so we have the hand crank kind and I blamed him for my not paying attention, hey he wan't there to defend himself
-felt much better on Sunday. I think the hip felt bad because I did not feel well it seems a problem when I am over tired or feeling sick. Love this whole aging process...
-trouble getting moving this morning for both C & myself so I drove him to school. He probably could have made the bus if I sent him down there by himself but I am not comfortable doing that just yet. I was younger than he is when I was getting the bus by myself am I being over protective or just safe?
-the owner just walked in and is already on my nerves why can't I win the lottery??? oh yeah I need to actually buy a ticket once in awhile
-in truth he was on my nerves before he got here specifically when I opened my e-mail. He actually forwarded something important to me that was from a month ago just this weekend-luckily I already had the info...
