laying in supplies

we have all been busy today D & a buddy road tripped to Nashville to stock up on scotch & such for the holiday season. C went off to spend the night with his mee maw after a trip to the toy store to stock up for his week of convalescence. I hit the stores myself. First a book store so I won't be completely bored this week plus a few new books & activity books for tonsillectomy boy. I also picked up a few of the plug into the tv arcade games to hopefully help keep C somewhat occupied. I'll grab some dvds from work on monday as well. Then I did a little of the grocery shopping trying to drum up ideas for soft food jello, ice cream, pudding, scrambled eggs, pasta, pancakes? they are soft aren't they?. I am running out of ideas I guess we will just wing it and see what happens. I also picked up a standing rib roast not exactly a soft food but it is for thanksgiving day. Now I just have to figure out what sides to go with it and finish my grocery shopping tomorrow!

football

it is all football all the time here at the house. Old football games or vintage if you prefer are the new standard they have replaced saturday morning cartoons around the 'ol homestead. Saturday is full of college football and sundays pro games, luckily C does not know of monday night football yet. D is letting it all unfold which I find amusing. In the past he never watched sports on tv. D played the major 3 when he was younger and felt no need to watch them but as C has shown overwhelming interest the 2 boys well & oscar will spend most of sunday afternoon in front of some ball game or another and I must admit to watching some myself but only the new games not the random old ones on ESPN.
C's loyalties are amusing the Colts because of course Peyton Manning was a Vol and naturally the NY Giants as Peyton's younger brother is the quarterback but more importantly that is Grandpa's favorite team. I see my father in C very clearly sometimes. A few weeks ago C was almost in tears because the Colts lost to the Patriots in a very close game. Growing up on sundays when the Giants were playing dad would slip away from dinner intermittently to check on the score of the game. If the Giants lost you knew to stay away from dad as he would be cranky although we never saw tears!

day of reckoning

so the BEHAVIOR folder comes home this afternoon. I have been assured each day except for tuesday that he has gotten an A each day thus far. C got a B on tuesday for spitting out his snack at snack time?why I don't know but also he was playing tag in the hallway. It was a rainy day & they were cooped up inside for recess so I am not too upset with him he is 7. And honestly the more I have thought about it the past two weeks can be explainable. The grades and schoolwork he has brought home each day have been fine so the education part is not slacking off. His behavior was questionable the week after a fall break-a week off that is unnecessary in my opinion, the following week he was fighting a cold not sick enough to stay home but he did not feel well. On top of it all is the upcoming tonsillectomy which may have him weirded out more than he is letting on. My mom a teacher for 30+ years and the mother of a formerly rowdy little boy who grew up just fine concurs. I am not one of those parents who believe that their child can do no wrong but I am going to hang back a little on the punishment department and see what happens...

funerals

so I suppose funerals must have been on my mind yesterday because my great-aunt passed away several days ago & her funeral was in fact yesterday. Mom called to let me know last night not sure why she waited but sometimes my mom can be strange about things. It's not like I was super close to the woman in fact she was not my great-aunt she was my grandmother's cousin but they were basically raised as sisters as her mother died in childbirth. My great grandfather died when my grandmother was 2 so they had the loss of parent at young age bonding thing going on as well.
Any whoodles my great aunt was a nun who lived for a number of years in Hawaii. Mama would visit her once a year and I was promised a trip when I was 13 but of course she was living in NY by that time so all we got were afternoons in Ossining. They were interesting afternoons, we usually would ask to hear about the morning of pearl harbor as she had been on the big island that morning. The Maryknoll nuns are missionaries so the gift shop always had all sorts of neat things from around the world and the sitting room had interesting displays specifically I remember a thing about chinese women and feet binding and some teeny tiny shoes in a display case.
hard to believe all of that generation in our family tree has died off.

random thoughts of the day

-my husband, son AND dog all snore I suppose if I want a good night of sleep I'll need to check into a motel
-I like silly entertaining movies I don't always want to think or be challenged by a film
-I am a firm believer in the christmas season not starting until the day after thanksgiving but for some reason this year I am having trouble waiting to play christmas music, decorate and bake
-I am baking christmas cookies this year something I have not done since before C was born
-I am going to try and talk my Dad into baking as well I have very happy memories of him doing this when I was younger and his cookies rock!
-I will use my son to sweet talk grandpa into baking cookies. I am without shame when it comes to those cookies
-I am not a holiday sweater wearing person however I saw a really cute red christmasy sweater with penguins that I think I may go back and purchase
-the penguins reminded my of my grandmother who collected penguins. I miss the old broad and make no mistake she was a broad in the best sense of the word. I find it hard to believe that is has been 22 years since she passed
-missing her has made me a little weepy this morning
-it also made me laugh our family funerals are generally a three ring circus we should sell tickets really!

*****!!?!

damn school crap. I got a lovely postcard in the mail last week saying my registration and transcript and everything was on hold because I did not take my placement tests. Can't get my grades or register for next semester. That's ok I will call over to records and inquire about my transcript which PSTCC has had since August. Now I will give them the math placement test I have avoided it thus far but I will take it especially since the plan is for me to take math next semester. But reading & writing NO damn it Sarah Lawrence College is all freaking reading & writing I will not concede on that point.
After 3 phone messages the lady who was suppose to be reviewing my transcript finally called me back today asking if I could get course descriptions from SLC as they were no longer on line. no flipping duh that was 1985-89 no big surprise the info was no longer available. So a call to SLC they can find out and fax it over but it will take some time. Why this didn't happen in AUGUST when I submitted my transcript I do not know.
I need to get a lottery ticket tonight on the way home and some ibuprofen I have a headache...

alrighty then

So one of my bosses just handed me a list of top rates horror dvds that he wants ordered for the store. A halloween top rated horror films list. I wonder is he late or just really early for next year?
I need to freakin win the lottery....
