guns

well I will be surprised it we don't get one soon. D has wanted one well for as long as I can remember. But a trip to Dick's Sporting goods when we went camping brought to his attention that you could buy one on layaway. Last weekend in our travels we went looking at guns at Gander Mtn. I was partial to the pretty pink shotgun they had for kids.. And now he has gone to the gun range with one of his friends who recently got a membership at the range. Then as luck would have it even yesterday afternoon at a birthday party for one of C's friend he was talking guns with the dad & grandfather. I was running a random fever & missed most of yesterday but after several days of really weird symptoms I was happy it seems to be generic illness & not heart attack or something. Anyway back to guns I am a little concerned with the thought of one in the house but I think C should also learn how to handle & respect them. I remember a long ago(pre-C) conversation with some guys from work about guns being in the house but knowing not to touch them locked up or otherwise, a sentiment echoed by D plus ya need to be ready just in case of zombie invasion & all. Next time we have a babysitter I have been informed I am being taken shooting, odd date but after 11 years of marriage...
Connor wants to go desperately but he has to wait till he's 10, he has been promised a BB gun for christmas as long as he is doing well in school. He did get a cap gun for his birthday & amusingly the caps are a bit of a pain to find, we can get them on line which I guess is what we'll wind up doing. When D brought him to Toys R Us to buy some they looked at D like he asked for a child to run over with his car, the only guns they carry are water guns. I do wonder why those are PC you tend to aim & shoot at people when they are filled with water...
just noticed this will post as friday which is when I started but since I was feeling lousy I didn't finish it till sunday

ice cream

In a serious pms moment last night I decided I needed ice cream. TCBY is closer & for the truly lazy they even have a drive-thru but I need real honest to goodness ice cream. I told D where I was headed & asked if he wanted anything C got into the mix very put out that I did not ask him what he wanted, now he was headed to bath & bed and quite frankly doesn't like ice cream very much anyway(odd child) which I pointed out to him-he was still very put out. I started out to Cold Stone Creamery and on the way started reminiscing about hot summer nights in my youth doing the family thing & getting ice cream at a hole in the wall sort of place in Bethel CT where the lines were frequently out the door. My favorite was chocolate lace & cream a vanilla ice cream with a locally made candy-caramel covered in dark chocolate. Amusingly in a it's a small world sort of way these days chocolate lace is available from Hauser Chocolates. I went to high school with Rudi Jr who now runs the family company. I also worked part time for Reudi Sr when he just had the catering business. Really part time in fact usually just during wedding season, it was always lots of work but a good time that I was paid for, we ate very well & generally got tipped very well. and who doesn't enjoy weddings? The outdoor stuff wasn't too much fun when it rained.. I do remember an amusing bar mitzvah party walking around with hors d'oeuvres watercress wrapped in bacon. Needless to say the wait staff got more than a few earfuls from less the less than amused older crowd. I am still not sure why the hostess chose to put those on the menu.

dear discovery channel,

please bring back new episodes of survivorman & cancel the faux version with the British ex-SAS guy, he is just annoying, you're hoping he falls in a ravine or something, I'm sure his cameraman carries a cell phone so he'd be ok..
and while we're at it tell the travel channel to make some new episodes of no reservations

yippee!

we actually had a babysitter for most of yesterday & last night! after C's testing at tae kwan do(he is progressing to a blue belt & if I can ever get my camera to download to this computer I might post a pic of his receiving it!) mil came along to the testing & took C for a fun filled day of soda, shopping, most likely pizza, buddy's bbq or mcdonalds(or all three), I know a dvd or two will be involved as well as popcorn and I'm sure he got to stay up late, oh the fun of being spoiled by grandparents, I'm a little jealous I miss those days myself! Anyway we met up with some friends for lunch & a pitcher of margaritas at one of our favorite mexican joints, never a bad thing! Then we hung out, drove around town a little and it seemed like most of the town must be at Bonnaroo not many people were out & about. Then thrill of all thrills actually made it to a movie! very exciting stuff rated R and everything-we saw 28 weeks later it was good but I think I like the first one better. Novel to go see an adult movie actually at the movie theater..the next films on tap are shrek3 & Surf's up!
As far as being "free" no not really after the movie we had to go let out & feed out other kid trusty Oscar "the superpug"
