C is a big fan of the rasslin. He comes by it honestly there are fans & watchers on both sides of the family for generations in fact. His new thing is to play wrestling in his room, it involves taking his shirt off
" because the wrestlers do"
putting on long pants
" because some of them wear long pants"
then he ties a stuffed snake around his midsection as a stand in for the championship belt and proceeds to wrestle his build-a-bear-monkey who is the wrestler du jour. C is ALWAYS Rey Mysterio because that is his favorite wrestler.
Yesterday evening when I called him for dinner I got
"let me just finish my match mom"

neighborhoods
my brother & I were fortunate(as were my parents) when we were kids the neighborhood we grew up in was on a cul-de-sac and almost every house on the street had kids and we were all pretty much in similar age ranges so there was always someone to play with. Unfortunately C does not have that luxury. One girl lives next door & is the same age but she is away for the summer plus her parents seem to be busy people-at least busier than we are so she is frequently not home. We have an older couple right next door who get the occasional visit from their grand kids(a girl & boy), C plays with them, well mostly the boy who is maybe 3 years older but that is it on our street kid-wise the only other kids are jr high to high school older. There is another boy that was in C's kindergarten class that lives sort of behind us but there are fences & it involves dropping off & picking up or staying & being social which quite frankly is ok most of the time but not today..I hate arranging play dates & I hate calling them play dates it makes me feel like "one of those moms" you know the ones that arrange every aspect of their child's life.I wish I could just send him out the door & tell him to listen for the bell to come home-my parents have a dinner bell sort of thing or maybe it was for a boat, I don't know, but when they rang it you had to go one home. One boy ALWAYS thought it was the ice cream man-seriously for years he fell for it you could probably ring it today & that's what he would think it was!

14 hours in a car is just too long
and uncomfortable, no way around it. It always feels like we ruin the good relaxed vibe from vacationing at my parent's house by cramming the return trip into one day. The vacation was nice we didn't really do much of anything, skipped NYC, napped some, read a couple of books, C shadowed his grandfather the entire time, D watched bad movies on Dad's wide screen tv & re-stocked his scotch collection-it's cheaper in Danbury something to do with the sin taxes in the bible belt-saw Shrek 3 & spent a day with my aunt & uncle who drove up from Long Island for a visit. Back to work for me today-boy wasn't that fun. D took one more day as he had a few things to do including a matinee of Transformers. It has been deemed acceptable for C's viewing so I think as long as he behaves the rest of the week there will be a boys outing to see it this weekend. I think I am going to try and find a girly film of some sort or maybe a trip to the bookstore or maybe just catch up laundry & housework..
