truly amazing what a good night of sleep will do for your mood
a solid 9 hours and dare I say I'm feeling down right perky this morning...but I'm at work now so I am fairly certain it won't last. I work in an older building and the owner is an air conditioning or rather lack of air conditioning crazed lunatic so work is unpleasantly sweltering at times.

big man on campus
C's grand return to summer camp/daycare where he is beloved & looked up to by all....vaguely reminiscent of Norm's grand entrances on Cheers. He is anxiously awaiting for his bestest bud who will join him next week.

bestest of buddies
when C started school almost 4 years ago now we had to switch his daycare to one that would pick up at his school each afternoon. Once the first summer rolled around we decided to leave him at the new location for continuity and location purposes and quite frankly it is a larger daycare with more field trips and activities than the smaller one provided. He was not thrilled with the idea because he was the only boy in his grade attending the summer camp, after a bumpy start he managed to make friends with some younger & some older boys and he made due the next couple of summers. Until last summer that is when D came on the scene OMG a true "bromance" kidmance was born the boys were inseparable the entire summer. As D does not live in the same school zone they boys have been separated during the school year(and why we did not exchange phone numbers I am not sure but ah well we will this summer).
First day of summer yesterday....I was having car issues the plan was to have MIL get us when car was ready take C to summer camp & me to get car so we go to sleep in a bit yesterday. First thing out of C's mouth when he got up, even before he asked for food was(no small thing if you know my son)
I'm late I need to get to summer camp
And once we arrived at 10:30 the teacher was so happy to C as D had been asking every 10 minutes since he arrived where C was.
way too cute

my summer of 1989
yet another meme, I had a feeling when Chris tagged my brother Chris this might be headed my way...
So yeah summer of '89 not exactly a great summer, a pivotal one but not a particularly happy one. This was the summer I did not graduate from college. This was back in the olden days before 5-6 years became the norm for college students. My brother had his own stuff going on as well that summer & my parents were at that point more than eager to become empty nesters.
I found myself moved back home with the expectation I would attend the local university. I was miserable & home and my hometown was the last place I wanted to live and to add to the insanity I was under the mistaken impression that because I was 21 I was an adult and I knew everything. Things were tense at best around the house. And oddly enough I did not know everything
My summer did intersect some with my brother's-not really a shock or anything we are siblings and all- I attended several of his extravaganzas & was in fact the beer source not funding just purchase with the trade out being cartons of cigarettes let's just say I didn't have to buy many of my own cancer sticks that summer.
I was working full time at the cookie place in the mall and began to hang out with my manager and his boyfriend who ran one of the record stores. No not a typo yes it was a gay couple. They had a fun group of friends but I regrettably started distancing myself from friends, many I had known since grammar school. It took my 20th high school reunion to reconnect with most of those girls. I suppose that falls under the if I only knew then what I know know sort of categories.
It wasn't all doom & gloom got to see New Order, PIL & the Sugarcubes in concert that summer also went up to Saratoga Springs and saw Elton John. There was a great amusement park in Saratoga and another not far in MA that we went to several times.
By the end of summer I had moved out of my parents house & in with my new friends. That friendship would eventually lead me to music retail, Knoxville and indeed David which lead to C and Oscar the superpug.
I am going to pass it along to Jenni and Anna and Pete and Allison you could do really short ones on twitter...

last week of summer
Friday is also meet the teacher day. The school posted info yesterday no no not online on the building and each grade had assigned times to come meet your teacher on Friday. 3rd grade is from 1-2 why thanks so very much, um not all of us are SAHM moms. Oh well I really didn't want to work all day on friday anyway...
There was more complete and specific list of items the boy need supply-wise posted from his teacher. It would be really nice if they could get that sort of thing together before the tax-free weekend and get it out to us parents! I go through this each year. I guessed most of it correctly but we still need to pick up a few more items this weekend.
I was surprised to hear on the radio that the state is already talking about getting rid of the sales tax holiday. I understnad maybe dropping the spring holday but it seems like a suspect choice to do away with the whole concept. It clearly spurred the economy this weekend in TN and if you abolish ours it will just send folks over to neighboring Georgia next summer to take advantage of their tax holiday

and we are running out of it fast! I just had a glance at the calendar and I am not sure where the time is going...
my class will be finished in just over 2 weeks then C & I head to CT for a little over a week and when we get back he has about 1 more week until he is back in school.
Better not blink it

summer camp
so we are back here again already-where did the year go???
C is signed up for the "summer camp" at his daycare which while a daycare center it is I guess just aftercare for him and summer camp as well I don't think the semantics of what we are calling it bothers C as of yet. We are golden with where we are at till 5th grade which will I'm sure be here before you know it! I am still having a hard time believing he starts 3rd grade in August-did I not just give birth? no I guess I can't be still calling this baby weight anymore then can I?
So any way just a few more years then we will have to arrange a series of day camps for the boy-the paper puts out a supplement each spring that lists a multitude of day camp & summer activities which should help in the planning.
Sleep away camp also came up this weekend and I hope that we will be able to swing that for C at some point. I always desperately wanted to do that in the summer but alas we never did..I was such a deprived child or was that depraved? I get confused.

summer scheduling
when I was growing up summer was all about goofing off, you had 2 months of uninterrupted goof off time, you rode your bike, caught frogs, played kickball at the end of the street, played tag, built forts in the woods & one week of vacation with the parents in Vt. Now there are so many bloody different camps to sign up for, a camp for baseball, soccer, swimming, reading, math, vacation bible school(more of a southern thing but slowly creeping it's way north I understand). Connor is going to his daycare full-time which they bill as a summer camp for the kids with all sorts of field trips to the zoo, the women's basketball hall of fame, a pizza place, the park, the library, etc. This is what he did last year & he had a blast last summer, this year we are going to add on a baseball camp for one week in June which is only in the morning so it will involve a mid-morning drop off making one of us late for work, a pick-up around noon & a drop off at his regular daycare, unless they have a field trip that day which will mean figuring out other arrangements for the boy. All of this will also include lunch on the go because lunchtime is pretty early at his daycare. I am hoping my MIL can help out with transportation issues as well as maybe an afternoon or two of hanging out with the boy. I had thought about adding vacation bible school to the mix this summer but that is one week in June, just mornings so I think I will skip that altogether. If we had the money & time to spend running him around all summer he theoretically could be doing something different each week, it's so crazy to have kids booked up when they should be goofing off... They will have plenty of time to run around with their lives scheduled when they grow up!
