camping
yes we are going to go camping again this spring. I believe a weekend is in the works. Shocking to those who know my view of camping is a hotel without room service! We had a good time last spring and I am really looking forward to going again-it's a good group of people and there will be more kiddies this time for C to pal around with. After last year I have a better idea of what we will and won't need to bring along and first on my list is blow up mattress oh and a camping coffee press! camping is better with caffeine.
I believe the steak on a stick is indeed a culinary treat is worth repeating. About smores & roasted marshmallows they are just gross I do not like them but I think they are a requirement while camping...

baseball season is fast upon us
and "tryouts" were Saturday morning. I say "tryouts" yes with the annoying air quotes because we've paid our fees, the check has been cashed the boy will play baseball, they were really evaluations which I must say it seemed a little sublime at this level of baseball. C is playing machine pitch again, it is one league up from playing with dirt and picking flowers in the outfield but they have "evaluations". Around 20 maybe 30 coaches sat at long tables while each boy ran the length of the gym, hit a few balls then fielded a bit. I guess we get a call later this week to find out which team C was picked for. I am hoping it will be the same group of coaches he played for this past fall they were a good group of guys that let the boys still have fun hell they're only 7-8 not quite ready for the UT scouts just yet...
There was one coach last fall in this league who was a little too gung-ho for my tastes, way too aggressive for the age group he would storm about the field with his blue tooth firmly soldered to his head yelling out alligator each inning we still don't know what it meant. Our coach's wife & I were going to make something up to yell out to our kids when they were in the outfield I believe we came up with watermelon.
I am really hoping this is not our coach....

cooties
evidently most of Knoxville has them which is why Knox County schools have been out the past 2 days. One of the joys of retailing, well I suppose any work place these days is that illness tends to sweep through an entire staff. Until recently we had 2 stores and colds, flu, stomach virus, you name it seemed that both stores would cycle through the disease, some people twice. The flu was so rampant 2 years ago that one of the owners now pays for anyone who wants the flu shot to go ahead and get one. We're down to 1 store and half the employees but illness seems to be sweeping through this week and it is several different sorts of disease I am thinking about getting a mask at lunch or getting plastic gloves. As it is my poor hands are getting chapped from washing I wonder if workman's comp would cover a manicure?

need to know
need the info...
headed down to the bus stop at 6.45 we were first there a little odd but not entirely out of the ordinary. Got a phone call from D he thought he just heard something on the radio about Knox County schools being out due to illness. We headed back to the house to verify on the news-television news we are still without computer at home. D actually says to me oh yeah So & So at work mentioned something about school being out last night to me when I left work.
This is information I need passed along people! or rather person. He did however place a phone call into Mee-Maw right away so I dropped C with her for the day.
I really need to put a radio or television in the kitchen in the mornings so I am a little more current with what is going on. My mother's school system has some sort of automated phone thing that calls all of the parents about cancellations & delays wish we had that here!

so when I die
and hopefully go to heaven will they really give me a box of my mismatched socks and mittens to sort through? and will I get back the one earring I fumbled, dropped and lost this morning??? because it was a pretty little diamond earring my sweetie gave me for my 40th birthday and I'm pissed at myself for being a klutz!
C being of generous heart and nature offered me one of his $20 bills so I could buy myself a replacement earring.

night out on the town for President's Day
ok not really but we managed an out to dinner with the family-at least the ones available & in town plus a couple of friends as BIL heads back to KC today. MIL picked Bonefish Grill and I was less than enthused by the choice as the only thing I have heard about the restaurant was "it's expensive"
I must say I was pleasantly surprised the food was great, service great, the pomegranate martini rocked and it wasn't so very expensive especially when MIL picks up the check big thanks to her! We all had an enjoyable time C of course ate non-stop as soon as food started coming with some help from MIL who sat next to him-we joked ha ha when he wakes up with a tummy ache we were going to call her. Not so funny at 3.04 a.m. when I was woken up by a little boy with a tummy ache. He was stil not feeling well this morning so he is home from school today. I do not like keeping him out of school but he has never played the fake sick card as of yet and I figured I would have gotten a phone call from the school nurse at some point if I sent him in. Luckily D is off today so he can take BIL to the airport this afternoon at which point C will go to MIL so the scramble for childcare was not such a big deal huge thanks to MIL on that front as well!
almost forgot the best part after I got C settled and back in bed D started going on about buying castor oil because when they were kids and went out to a party, picnic etc they would each get a tablespoon of castor oil if that doesn't seem cruel & unusual I don't know what does! blecch

you are still a dog aren't you?
poor Oscar does not like going out in the rain. Yesterday I got the impression he was waiting on an umbrella escort for his trip to the backyard.
He has also become rather picky at treat time you must give him the treat in his mouth do not drop it on the floor, oh no he will look at that bone look back at you and wait for you to give it to him properly. When he became Mr Manners is beyond me...

thwarted by illness again
not major illness for our family just a cold for C but it derailed plans for the weekend. D's brother is in town for a visit and there were tickets for motocross on Sat night after which we were going to drop C at MIL's for a sleepover and we were going to a party, a geek party but a party nonetheless. C was not up to motocross and since he was the main reason to go plans were scrapped for that. I stayed home while D & BIL went to geek party.
Sunday we were going to try & organize a bowling soiree but both D & I wound up working-unusual for both of us on a Sunday but it happened so plans for that were also scrapped.
Not a very exciting weekend however next weekend baseball starts in, well just tryouts but that will keep us busy till May. C is still really gung-ho on basketball as well and I am not sure where to find a summer league but I'll see what I can do.
