I believe we have hit the hard of hearing tween/teen years with C.
He has a big end of the year project involving reading a biography, further research of biography's subject, writing a speech about said person and some sort of visual poster type thing and a costume of some kind to represent this person. After some dithering back and forth George Washington Carver was chosen, a book procured & I asked C to start reading a couple of chapters at a time while taking copious notes to assist in the rest of the project. After the first few chapters I suggested he might try to take better more detailed notes of the chapters
"yes Mom"
Naturally the note taking did not get much better. The first installment of the project, a series of questions to aid in the speech is due next Tuesday. I asked that he begin to start filling that out, in his notebook so we could go over it before it got put to paper. Of course he started writing it on the paper directly and already two questions in I need to buy white out...do they still make white out? Not to mention he did not even touch the stuff till I walked in the door and asked him why he was not working on it.
At some point I needed to dash out & pick something up just as David texted in instructions for C to take care of some general household cleaning duties. C was concerned which should he do first? I told him do chores then get back to his project. I must have been a little short & exasperated with him because while I was out he sent "I am sorry" text. I replied that it was fine he just need to make sure his chores & school work were always done before tv time.
And I swear I could not make this up C texted me back "does this mean I can watch tv now?'
NO work on your project
*sigh*

does anyone still check their messages?
I must admit I frequently do not, most of the time I just return the phone call. And with certain folks I have stopped leaving messages knowing full well they won't listen to it but instead just return my call directly. There is someone I work with who not only will leave one message no no he leaves 2, first on a home phone leaving an extremely over-detailed message then calling cell phone & leaving the very same detailed message there as well a little bit over overkill if you ask me. Which would also be the reason he is not in possession of my cell phone number.
not a morning person
not that this is new information or anything I am considering the fact that I need a new system for the morning routines. It took me over an hour to make lunches & breakfast for the family, including the dog (he only got breakfast no pb & jelly for Oscar) and then getting myself & C out the door (he is not a morning person either, again not a news flash). I prefer a coffee filled and maybe some catching up on facebook time while watching the news to ease into my day. It would seem I have always been doomed to these tasks as back in the day getting my brother & myself squared away & out the door when my mother went back to work so many years ago. Of course I would lay a lot of it out the night before so it took less thought & effort. We seemed to eat chicken roll or chicken loaf for lunch, a lot & the thought makes me a little queasy what in the heck was it made of? Chicken should not come in loaf form. Anywho I need to take some time at the end of the evenings and organize my assembly line so my mornings can be spent with a little more goof off time.

the MOVIE
several months ago C was chatting with his cousin (niece #2) and his grandmother when he brought up the MOVIE which you see this year at school, his knowledge seemed limited to "you grow hair EVERYWHERE" then he turned bright red and I believe that was the end of the discussion. He never brought it up to me & David and we figured we would take the wait and see approach for time being . Well permission slips came home for the MOVIE which is this week, there was more talk of hair that grows everywhere and it looks like David gets to have the TALK with C this weekend. Oh lord give me strength

feeling nostalgic
some friends just had their first child and our 2 year old grand-nephew is in town visiting so the fact the my baby is close to being as tall as me, will be turning 11 this year and starting middle school next fall has been pulling a little on my heart strings a wee bit. It seems like just yesterday we were bringing him home from the hospital as we left the hospital both David & I left with the wild sort of feeling...you mean they are just going to let us walk out of here & take this tiny human home with us?

hoarder in training
my garage is moments away from being declared a national emergency site and yet I managed 3 bags of trash in less than a 1/2 hour this morning! Imagine what I could do with a whole hour? Ah who knows it's coffee and catch up on my DVR time now

my new favorite word
or rather slang would be bougie
no idea why but niece #1 & niece #2 use it frequently and for some reason it has struck my fancy this week

what is up with all the April birthdays?
always popular in my family growing up we would celebrate my brother, father, grandmother, grandfather & an uncle's birthday all on one day of course with all those names to fit a large cake was required. With the advent of facebook and the tab that let's me know when folks have a birthday I am amazed at the amount of people I know with April birthdays which would make conception what in the summer months? Would have thought more babies would be conceived during colder months.
