the town crier
twice in the last week I was asked how I was feeling as I had been sick, these were folks I do not know well enough to have told about any kind of sickness. I had a day where I had eaten something that did not particularly agree we me and we will leave it at that. Evidently MIL had been sharing my ailment to what detail I have no idea and I do not want to know.

but of course we have to toss in a little bit of crazy
MIL has been a rock throughout all of David's medical problems pretty amazing when you stop and think that he is her baby (and quite honestly her favorite but don't tell the others). So completely awesome I could not do it without her, that being said I get a phone call maybe the day after we brought David home from the hospital and there is a woman at church she knows who couldn't walk without a cane had all sorts of problems and when she stopped taking all her medications she got better walks fine now and maybe we should tell the doctor about that when David goes back to see him....
*sigh* yeah I'll get right on that

re: soul food
we can scratch neck bones and gravy off my list..they tasted fine but getting spinous process in my mouth well grossed me out to no end. Silly I know because I will happily gnaw on a rib, leg, thigh even a cheek but the vertebral column umm no. David needs to just have his momma make this for him I am not even gonna attempt it.

is it all down hill from here?
what is it with the sickness??
As I crept into my late 30's and now early 40's I get sick all the damn time several times a season it seems. Colds, sinus infections, strep has been know to happen, the flu, the stomach flu I swear it seems like I am in constant need of medical care and I am over it! Why on earth am I still taking vitamins?! hell maybe that is what is making me sick?? MIL keeps threatening to buy my cod liver oil and I am starting to think I may need to give it a whirl
10/19 Monday P.S. forgot to mention the broken toe which as it is improving I do not believe to have been actually broken just very very bruised And then there was food poisoning suffered from some lobster bisque I think. I won't mention the restaurant 'cause I still really the place maybe will skip the soup next time though

can your nose fall off?
really I beginning to think my will....ugh damn sinus infection!! I almost wish it had been strep and then none of this yellow/green glop would be pouring from my nose. MIL has proposed I need to start taking cod liver oil every day I am beginning to wonder that myself

what age is the magic trustworthy age?
what is the golden number when children can be left home alone to fend for themselves? I have never left my 9 year old home alone for any amount of time in spite of the fact I think it would be okay and at that age I was babysitting home alone in someone elses home and responsible for their children no less. I believe there are laws now about that sort of thing, there might have been way back when too but no one paid much attention as far as I could see. We were not exactly latchkey kids growing up my grandmother lived in a mother-in-law apartment attached to our house and she was in residence most of the time but not all of the time and in the mornings my brother and I were responsible enough to get ourselves fed, dressed, lunches made etc...not once did we set the house on fire, let in a stranger or miss our ride to school. I do recall more than one sick day being left home alone to fend for myself. Again nothing earth shattering occurred. I am bemused by the David's Mom as she will not leave my 15 yr old nephew (Z) home alone even for the 1/2 hour it is taking her to pick up David. Z has given her absolutely no reason not to trust him for at the very least a 1/2 hour all by his lonesome never mind those time during the school year we get him overnight because no one would be home till 10 at night. I can't imagine that at 15 we won't be able to trust C home alone although knowing his father's and other various and sundry uncle's past histories he might not be left alone till he's 35
I should add MIL is particular about who is or is not in her house anyway so the fact she won't leave Z is not so very strange. It still amazes me after all these years we have finally been allowed a spare key to her place.

laundry dilemma
a dilemma because I can not do laundry....ironic huh? Washing machine is not working so well and of course the soonest Sears can come is Friday so what's a girl to do? I must say I am once again perplexed by the 8 hour window they gave me. In this day age with cell phones, computers, gps, chip under peoples skin why in the high holy hell can they not give me a shorter window of time???? I understand why they cannot be exact but an 8 hour option?!
A shout out to MIL for offering to do any laundry we need doing this week beacuse if we went a whole week without any laundry being done the house would explode

party at MIL's house
MIL is very weird about giving out the key to her house..no no I mean really weird when David moved out of the house he had to hand in his key. When we moved out of her house(although not her house at the time it belonged to FIL who was letting us live there and there is waaaay more to that whole story but we'll save that for another time) she actually had the locks changed. When family would visit she wouldn't hand out a key they had to rely on her being home and if she went out well they had to vacate as well. She has lightened up somewhat on that especially with BIL & nephew living there currently, I believe they are allowed keys(although nephew is generally not allowed to be there unsupervised if she can at all humanly possible help it) I have bugged her for years that we should have a spare key in case of emergency and she agrees in theory but nooo never actually produces on for me. Locking herself out and having to call a locksmith has not produced a key for us and even when several years ago when she had a freaky eye problem and temporary blindness she would not cough up a key...like I said she is freaky about giving out the house key so when she gave me a key for just in case because she was going to be out of town for a few days I about fell over. And yes I am heading to walmart to make a copy I can put up just in case of emergency

and yet another day of phone calls from the school clinic
day 3? day 4? I have lost count. I finally have called the office and requested he be allowed to go to the library for recess instead of outside. I hate to do that but I am not about to drop everything and bring him home suffering from just allergies, nope not going to happen and I warned him of that this morning. Yesterday the Doctor gave us a nasal spray to go along with the Allegra they had already prescribed(and declared him asthma free thank you very much) but this is the worst bout he has ever had to deal with. I hate that he feels miserable and hope these meds start kicking in soon. I do feel mildly guilty but come on he can not just lay out of class for the entirety of allergy season which in K-town seems to be the better part of the year!

get sick on your own time kid
C is notorious for getting sick at the very end of the school day..you know that last hour that it is physically impossible for me to make it across town to pick him up before the insanity of buses & cars are there at dismissal. I felt only mild guilt at cutting him off and telling him to get his butt back to class for the last 45 minutes of the day. And it's just allergies(although MIL is convinced it's asthma as she has been for several years now and I will have to eat crow if it is asthma so I am really really hoping it is just the allergies again) but as we saw the nurse practitioner just last week & got allergy medicine that does not seem to be helping so much I got an appointment for this afternoon

and so it begins
C is on the verge of becoming a clothes horse. He loves shopping for new clothes & shoes. We can go shopping for a suit and he finds 3 or 4 tee shirts he absolutely needs as well. For a very long time I would just shop for him but as he is getting older & bigger he has to come along to try things on plus generally speaking let him pick out what he wants to wear. I have never understood his desire for tee shirts that have something snarky to say about a sibling mainly because well he doesn't have one and at this point is not going to get one but whatever floats your boat I suppose. Anywho I have visions of just a few years from now dropping him and the mall with pricey shopping excursions to Buckle & Hollister or whatever happens to be trendy at that point in time. Just this past weekend his MeeMaw was discussing how she was just going to get him his own credit card so he can go shopping. Funny except she was serious, David contends there is probably already a credit card with the kid's name on it somewhere at this point. Regardless I thought we had a couple of years but this morning I got a request for a specific Northface jacket he was wanting.....let the shopping games begin

file under the thought was nice
but what was she thinking?
MIL returned a pair of jeans and a sweatshirt that C had left at her house um well ironed and on hangers. Has she met his little rumpled self?

terrible mother alert!
that's me, bad bad mommy at your service. Got a phone call from MIL first thing this morning, first thing in as I had not even walked into the kitchen to make coffee yet first thing-
"C has been coughing & wheezing he sounds asthmatic and that could lead to pneumonia and you have to take him to the doctor"
now I am well aware of the cough he has had one for a week or so as well as some allergies which is why when I dropped him off yesterday I pointed out the vicks vapor rub to put on last night & the OTC allergy stuff for evenings & mornings, which is when he is at his worst. I have finally learned a thing or two in my 13 years of dealing with MIL so I said sure I will make an appointment this week. Well that was not good enough I needed to take him to one of those weekend clinics which quite frankly I do not do-look at what happened last time! I am just not the type to run him into a doctor at every sniffle and lo and behold he has made it to 8 in fairly decent health, he never did contract TB! I managed to get off of the phone without calling her a loon and called David at work so he could deal with his mother. David didn't give me details but I think we are planning on dropping off a humidifier for her house which should help. Hopefully she has been pacified but I guess we will see, I half expect her to drop him back home putting a crimp into date night.
afternoon update: dropped humidifier off & he seems fine so I have cancelled the order for the iron lung

weekend update...again
I hate not being able to blog over the weekends, I would do it from my cell phone if typing with my thumbs didn't take so damn blasted long!
I thought the weekend was going to have a bumpy start when I got the phone call from C's school that he was not feeling well-about an hour before dismissal and no he just could not wait. So I zipped over to pick him up expecting him on death's doorstep or something-hell he couldn't even manage a good cough for me. Does he have a cold yes with a moderate cough I told him next time he needs to suck it up for 1 hour. I pissed off a bus driver because I was in the wrong spot but hell it was a good half hour before dismissal-I manged to control myself and not flip him the bird even though I wanted to. As C was fine I dropped him with some robitussin at mee-maw's.
D and I after brief spat over where to eat we wound up at East Japan or whatever it is called for some sushi-very yummy it used to be Gohan-Ya until recently which we always enjoyed and I must say it was even better on Friday!
Saturday was great we went with friends for lunch then up to the mountains specifically for a trek to the Coleman outlets so we could gear up for the big camping trip next weekend. We now have our own tent & apparently it is a popular tent 4 of us will have the same exact one there is talk of flags or maybe we could just spray paint our last names on each tent? We had little stop for some adult beverages and menus were discussed then a brief stop by my store for some new tunes in support of Record Store Day. No great romantic dinner for our anniversary but a really fun day with friends!
I did have one crazy phone call from MIL about taking C to the doctor to check him for asthma. Now most of his cousins suffer from it so I would like to think I am pretty aware of the signs and have not noticed C suffering as of yet so I just brushed her off. Got a phone call Sunday morning that he was congested and something about either medicine or the doctor before it turned into pneumonia. Pneumonia??!!?? I really expected him to be wheeled in on a stretcher but no he ran in showing off all of the loot he managed to talk mee-maw into buying him on Saturday. Does he have a cold sure but so do I he'll live....
Sunday was a lazy day of laundry & grocery shopping and coughing-from me that is I may have coughed up a vital organ but I'm not sure.. And let me say vicks vapor rub not very sexy!
And so it is Monday back to the grind....

doesn't everyone have a TB story?
well maybe not everyone but we have an amusing one..A few years ago for a very brief time we were living in the same house as my in-laws. C a 3 year old at the time in daycare full time came down with a fever, sniffles nothing serious just generic sickness. We didn't want to expose my fil to whatever he had so D couldn't sit with him while my mil went out, I think I was working that day & my mil was very put out to have her plans kiboshed, she blamed me for for C's being sick because I took him to out in the morning with damp hair & well if we weren't careful he could come down with TB, it happened to some body's cousin. So the morale of the story kids is dry your hair or you too could get tuberculosis..
