spent the day walking in someone else's shoes

and that would be literally not figuratively.....
Started my day out as I do each Saturday this semester heading to lab except this week I was a little fuzzier than usual and had the added task of dropping the dog at sleep away camp for the night because we had planned on being out of town for the day & night. Got to campus walked into the building looked down and oh dammit sandals on my feet breaking rule one of lab-no open toed or open heeled shoes I also had coffee in my hands breaking rule two but that situation was easily remedied. I got stuck wearing the junky sneakers left in the classroom for such nincompoops that forget rule #1. Then of course our out of town plans were thwarted by the torrential down pours of the day sending us to the bowling alley for an afternoon of well bowling leaving me once again not in my own shoes

once again

the Atlanta road trip with the ladies this time with photo highlights
more can be found here

stalking Richard Blais

I really don't mean to but being addicted to Top Chef and all one of the ulterior motives of the girls trip to Atlanta was to dine at a Richard Blais restaurant which we did twice in fact-Flip being the one he is currently involved with as well as Home which he had been involved with in the past. Fast forward to this season with 3 Atlanta based chefs making my list of favorites after the first episode and coincidentally my favorite chef thus far worked under Richard Blais, leaving me feeling sort of weird and stalkerish and yet eager to return to Atlanta to dine at ENO

a weekend full of fun & frivolity

the girl's weekend trip to Atlanta was fabulous there was much laughter, much shopping and all sorts of foodie experience the highlights are best summed up by Lady Retromodern over on her blog. I promise some photos one of these days

just a day

a rainy kind of lazy but also kind of productive Saturday. I had the benefit of not having to go into work (um yay!) but David did and so the alarm went off at ugh 5:15 this morning. I got up made coffee and the decided what the hell I am going to back to bed and did, luckily remembering to set the alarm so I could go get the kid from his sleepover. Sleepover being a total oxymoron in this case. After pickup we headed out to do some clothes shopping and even after swearing up and down that all C needed was shorts and a belt he wheedled 3 new shirts out of me as well. We then went and finally spent some of the gift cards he got for Christmas on a memory card & a new game as well as a new watch & I warned him the alarm had better not go off at 3 in the morning or the watch we be so gone. The kid is notorious about playing with any watch, clock or in fact anything with a timer so it goes off in the middle of the night not waking him of course just me & David. We then hit Five Guys Burgers finally and well hell yum great burgers and loads of fries. It'll be added to our repertoire I am sure. Then swung by grocery to pick of a few things and home again C played video games and I managed a little cat nap and some mindless magazine reading. David came home and we enjoyed a little pasta with clam sauce for dinner-thankfully we still had a bottle of wine to enjoy! caught up on Bill Maher, managed some laundry in between it all..it has been a good day.
now tomorrow on the other hand is going to suck as I have to go to work at 3 to do inventory I hate inventory I would rather have my appendix out than work inventory

where did the weekend go?

here it is Sunday night already and I am not sure where my weekend went to...
Friday was good. A late night unusual for us, ok me these days
Saturday was a nice lazy day I kept thinking about getting off the couch and going for a pedicure but that never happened, goofed on the computer some & watched the Lance Henrikson Channel, MIL returned the boy to us with some cash but no new toys for a change. Later on the boys went to see Speed Racer at the dollar theater which is in fact not a dollar at all but $4-still a bargain because that includes the popcorn. I managed to get off the couch and meet some of the girls for dinner at Soho Cafe followed by Ben & Jerry's-Chinese food, ice cream and female bonding what could you ask for? As luck would have it the girls night started early which meant I was home in time for D to head to his poker game so we both managed some alone time.
This morning I discovered the trick to sleeping in till 9-be awake for two hours in the middle of the night-worked like a charm. A charm I hope that is not repeated tonight.
Caught up on laundry-who am I kidding? I did some laundry not caught up though, read the paper, cleaned a little, did my nails, still need a pedicure though maybe next weekend, went grocery shopping and to the dreaded Walmart-don't do that on Sundays-it was nuts! C had a gift card burning a whole in his pocket and wanted to get himself Fate next time we go a whole lot earlier or a whole lot later than 2 on a Sunday. And seriously dude that was waaaay more than 20 items can you not count? The grocery store wasn't as bad and I ran into someone I had not seen in a few months. Could not find knockwurst so we had to settle for brats which were just fine but I am looking forward to some proper German sausage from Karl Ehmer when we are in CT.
Now I've got the Sunday blahs sort of dreading the week ahead....

fun on the fourth weekend

and indeed the whole weekend. The past several years we have been up in CT for the 4th so this was a change for us. We went from having a plethora of parties to none to sort of a bunch again but landed with just the right amount of festivities!
Cookout on the 4th was great fun big thank you to the Douglas' for hosting! C & I lucked out on the ride home we caught some of the big fireworks show that had been rain delayed. Much oohing & aahing and the realization we are going to have to take him to see fireworks dare I say it maybe the dreaded Boomsday? I am not fond of crowds or sitting in traffic so we'll see about that one...
Saturday wound up hanging out not doing anything of note. BIL(JJ) came into town with his son our nephew Z so it was a boys drinking Scotch listening to music fest at our house. I escaped with my book and went to bed early.
Sunday was the crawfish boil at MIL's house- and it is actually my BIL's "show" it seems to be turning into an annual thing which is great! The Shrimp Dock is wonderful one stop shopping everything down to the spices is purchased there-they also provide the pot & gear to cook with.
This summer we did buy more corn and sausage next year we need more shrimp and we need to get started cooking earlier-remember kids a watched pot never boils!!!!
Cute trick to keep away the bugs put cloves into lemon slices and scatter around the table-it really works well. I'd like to take credit on that clever idea but I read it in a magazine or somewhere just this past week. Thanks to Jenn! I recreated her chocolate eclair cake and it was the hit of the dessert table! and so very easy to make!

spoke too soon

so D decided he would rather grill out at the house than go out for Father's Day so that is what we did, more work on him and me for that matter but the man can grill some chicken let me tell 'ya!
We had a nice leisurely day big breakfast with gifts and cards for D, then a trip to visit with his Dad and back again home where we cooked with his mom, sister & niece.
It was an entirely enjoyable weekend caught the new Indiana Jones flick which I enjoyed, went to a new restaurant I wanted to try D gave it a thumbs down I thought it was alright but I suspect not to be added to our repertoire, dinner out with the family for C's birthday at Applebees (his choice) but you know their menu and food is not half bad for what it is. I tried to push for Vinnie & Me "but that's your favorite mommy".
shopping included the spending of birthday gift cards for the boy, Chinese food was consumed, finally watched the Departed sorry Mr Scorsese I was underwhelmed, my stats homework made sense, not sure if it got easier or it just clicked for me but I hope the understanding continues...

the pajama pant

I have several pairs and enjoy wearing them-around the house not out to the store.
Yes I am judging.
for God's sake throw on a pair of jeans if you need something at wally-world. seriously.
I have no idea why it irks me so but it does so there it is...
That being said I broke first rule of pajama pants last weekend after camping yes I wore my pants to the pancake house I am bad people.
Somehow we lucked into an absolutely do nothing day on Saturday a do nothing wear my pajama pants all day sort of day. It was a good day.

weekend update...again

I hate not being able to blog over the weekends, I would do it from my cell phone if typing with my thumbs didn't take so damn blasted long!
I thought the weekend was going to have a bumpy start when I got the phone call from C's school that he was not feeling well-about an hour before dismissal and no he just could not wait. So I zipped over to pick him up expecting him on death's doorstep or something-hell he couldn't even manage a good cough for me. Does he have a cold yes with a moderate cough I told him next time he needs to suck it up for 1 hour. I pissed off a bus driver because I was in the wrong spot but hell it was a good half hour before dismissal-I manged to control myself and not flip him the bird even though I wanted to. As C was fine I dropped him with some robitussin at mee-maw's.
D and I after brief spat over where to eat we wound up at East Japan or whatever it is called for some sushi-very yummy it used to be Gohan-Ya until recently which we always enjoyed and I must say it was even better on Friday!
Saturday was great we went with friends for lunch then up to the mountains specifically for a trek to the Coleman outlets so we could gear up for the big camping trip next weekend. We now have our own tent & apparently it is a popular tent 4 of us will have the same exact one there is talk of flags or maybe we could just spray paint our last names on each tent? We had little stop for some adult beverages and menus were discussed then a brief stop by my store for some new tunes in support of Record Store Day. No great romantic dinner for our anniversary but a really fun day with friends!
I did have one crazy phone call from MIL about taking C to the doctor to check him for asthma. Now most of his cousins suffer from it so I would like to think I am pretty aware of the signs and have not noticed C suffering as of yet so I just brushed her off. Got a phone call Sunday morning that he was congested and something about either medicine or the doctor before it turned into pneumonia. Pneumonia??!!?? I really expected him to be wheeled in on a stretcher but no he ran in showing off all of the loot he managed to talk mee-maw into buying him on Saturday. Does he have a cold sure but so do I he'll live....
Sunday was a lazy day of laundry & grocery shopping and coughing-from me that is I may have coughed up a vital organ but I'm not sure.. And let me say vicks vapor rub not very sexy!
And so it is Monday back to the grind....

fabulous fun four day first communion weekend

this will be the highlight reel of sorts I have way too much to write about this weekend-if only my brother could have fixed my computer.....
just kidding! on a lucky & happy note Mom & Dad have an older laptop they are going to send us after my brother cleans it up-it's good to have a computer geek in the family!
so grab a cup of coffee pull up a chair & smoke 'em if ya got 'em
Friday-much cleaning in the a.m. and the harsh realization I have turned into my mother-pack rat disease runs in the family and I have vowed to stop the madness. Next month we get a dumpster toss bunches of stuff and the rest goes to Goodwill I am not even going to try a garage sale or it will sit collecting more dust.
Family all in town by late afternoon we hung out a bit, Oscar got groomed and yet another gay bandanna was bestowed upon him. Took entire group(minus Oscar) to Sam & Andy's a little K-town tradition for supper the Vol burger a big hit as was the chocolate creme pie. My mom & SIL have me thinking I need to get a BLT next time they looked yummy as well.
Saturday-Cracker Barrel for breakfast, much food consumed. C had to go to first communion practice for an hour not really quite sure what was practiced as I ran to the store to get party stuff for the big day. My dad & brother went off to Turkey Creek to hang out & have male bonding, my mom read and napped, D had a friend in from out of town and he was given a day pass to go do boy stuff as well. SIL & I clearly gluttons for punishment took the 3 kids down to Portrait Innovations to get a cousin pic taken, the last one was almost 2 years ago so it was over due. It is a good thing we do, it means lots to my parents and the 3 kids are cute together but let me tell you I think I would rather have a kick in the teeth next time. They are older now 9-7 & 6 but they are still KIDS and it was work wrangling them to behave while we waited-why do they not have more than 2 studios really? then the actual photos were exhausting as well plus I never noticed the youngest never smiles she has that whole pouting thing down-look for her on the runways let me tell you! Luckily D was in the are so we did not have to wait the 45 minutes for the photos to be finished.
Then the mass exodus to Outback for dinner-10 of us. For now let's just say Outback had an off night in their kitchen so my mom did not have to use her gift certificates. It really deserves a blog onto itself. So watch for that one soon!
Sunday-big day arrives! I started making a few things for later in the day plus got a big breakfast organized we managed to get everyone showered & dressed and to the church on time. C looked very sharp in his new suit however I must admit to a twinge or two of jealousy, wishing for a girl when I saw gaggles of them in their pretty white dresses & veils. C would just not even try a dress on for me-damn kid!
Mass ran a wee bit long but went well. My father being a deacon in the Catholic church was on the altar and gave C wine at communion. A special moment and we are lucky my father has performed the weddings of my brother & myself as well as baptised all 3 grand kids. And speaking of weddings D & I celebrated 12 years on sunday. How have I put up with him for so long? It was really a footnote for the day we plan to celebrate this upcoming weekend.
Party went well would have been better had it been warm & sunny but fun was had nonetheless-the cake from VG's was excellent-no Jesus cake but a nice cross decoration, the cupcakes from Magpies were a huge hit, D grilled chicken and I made the usual sides I think everyone had fun and were well fed. It was a run up to the large Memorial Day cookout we normally have which I am already looking forward to!
Monday-C got to stay home from school, he does not see his grandparents often enough so I do not have a problem with a 1 day "skip". We went to Mimi's for breakfast-again much food consumed. Then we just hung out all day it was enjoyable! Dropped the parents at the airport around 5 then back to the humdrum of every day- laundry, dishes, bedtime! The weekend went by much too quickly!!! So there are lots of details and back-stories I will write about later!

weekend the abridged version

-came home friday and my hip hurt serious can't sleep sort of hurt miserable night all around and I slept like crap
-Saturday up early(see above) took lots of ibuprofen
-C was up at 7 a.m. looking for breakfast right away
-by 9:10 he was looking for lunch
-C had a birthday party in the afternoon so we headed over to Walmart-not a great idea early on a pretty Sat afternoon. good grief!
-had to give the little no we are not buying you anything speech we are getting a gift for your friend
-bought some absorbine jr why jr what was absorbine sr?
-and why does it have to smell like that?
-dropped kiddo at party and did not stay I like that he is older and I feel comfortable doing that now
-spent most of the rest of Saturday sleeping
-cut the hell out of my finger opening a can my first thought was dammit D-he has a thing about can openers so we have the hand crank kind and I blamed him for my not paying attention, hey he wan't there to defend himself
-felt much better on Sunday. I think the hip felt bad because I did not feel well it seems a problem when I am over tired or feeling sick. Love this whole aging process...
-trouble getting moving this morning for both C & myself so I drove him to school. He probably could have made the bus if I sent him down there by himself but I am not comfortable doing that just yet. I was younger than he is when I was getting the bus by myself am I being over protective or just safe?
-the owner just walked in and is already on my nerves why can't I win the lottery??? oh yeah I need to actually buy a ticket once in awhile
-in truth he was on my nerves before he got here specifically when I opened my e-mail. He actually forwarded something important to me that was from a month ago just this weekend-luckily I already had the info...

laziest weekend ever

didn't do much of anything this weekend it was nice! Did some laundry, D vacuumed I think but other than that we napped, watched bad t.v., listened to music, fed C several times that boy can eat! Didn't grocery shop, cook, run around to ball games, birthday parties or any other ferrying of the boy around town. Well we did attend C's baseball party at the local park which has the sprinkler/splash pad sort of thing which he always enjoys.
