this is the year C has discover "scary" movies and has caught up many of the oldies but goodies from our youth Halloween, Nightmare on Elm St, the horrible Chucky movie which I will not watch because dolls/puppets creep me the hell out. So far each film has been declared "well that was so not scary" that is until...
Candyman, Candyman, Candyman, Candyman....we didn't even make it through to the end & C asked if we could turn it off. Personally I found all the cigarette smoking scary, good grief it certainly dates it as an older movie. It was evidently scary enough to go to sleep with the light on LOL guess we won't have to break out the Exorcist to freak him out just yet
sunday disocvery: it was also too scary to bring the garbage to the garbage can in the dark, so guess who has trash to clean up when they get home today

the help seeing The Help
yes I should have blogged this months ago when I saw the movie but well I just didn't for whatever reason...at the cinema I found it ironic to be sitting next to someone who very much seemed like "the help" with her two rather youngish(read as annoying at an adult film)charges. as soon as I heard the youngest complain of an upset stomach I carefully move my Coach bag out of puking range and had the theatre not been so crowded I would have changed seats as it was the three wound up leaving abour half way through having climbed over our row back & forth a couple of times.

cinematic adventures
I love going to the movies! I have many fond memories of seeing just about everything that came out way back when (okay maybe not everything but I did go to the movies quite often) Childbirth, of course, seriously curtailed movie going experiences which really sucked but there was the DVD player and movies on cable. As C got older we were limited to strictly kid flicks but now heading into the tween years regular type non R-rated flicks have returned to our cinema excursions...however the price of movies geesh $37 last night for 4 of us, nephew Z came along and no way we could disguise his 16 year old self as a kid...that was 37 dollars without refreshments I might add I made the boys purchase their own. I will say the Despicable Me was worth every penny it was really a good movie and an enjoyable way to spend our Tuesday evening

what are the odds
that I would have seen both the movie on the flight out and the movie on the flight back? pretty good actually with as infrequent as our cinematic experiences are these days these two I have indeed seen and enjoyed. Maybe it was a good thing as I fell asleep on both flights and would have missed over 1/2 of each.

we are cinema going fools
3 weekends in a row...it is almost like old times you know "BC" before child if you prefer
it's nice now that we don't just have to see the kiddie cartoon movies anymore we have enjoyed Star Trek, Night at the Museum 2 and just yesterday Wolverine. We are looking forward to the new Transformers, GI Joe and well Ice age 3 we all still enjoy the kiddie cartoon flicks as well

love those inane arguments
you know the ones where you husband swears up & down he has never seen a Natasha Richardson film except he has the one with Mia Farrow called Widow's Peak (which by the way he has to bloody well seen because we watched it together)and then he further claims the only Mia Farrow film he has seen was Rosemary's Baby(which may or may not be possible except I thought we had watched Hannah's Sisters together at some point)

certain stereotypes die hard
Nazis were bad guys. Always the "good" villian on televsion or in a film and they should have sharp features, menacing eyes and a severe German accent. I just don't think Tom Cruise is going to fit the bill for me so pretty sure I'll will be skipping Valkyrie

Twilight
do I give into the hype? I suppose I should at least give the books a try. Hell I still need to read the Harry Potter series. Seen all of the movies but not read any of the books as of yet. hmmmm that might be a great Christmas idea for a certain young man that I know and that way Mommy can borrow them when he is finished.

Grease is the word..

one of the benefits to working in a music store would be well the music! Saw the Grease soundtrack and decided it would cheer me of my rainy day blahs and indeed it has.
The film brought controversy to the neighborhood back in the day, there were 3 of us that were BFFs on my street and our mothers had collectively decided the film was not for our 10 & 11 years old selves. Except one of my school friends was having a birthday party and sure enough it involved going to see Grease and a sleepover(there were always sleepovers at that age) so my mother relented and let me go see the banned movie. It took quite awhile for the girls to get over my betrayal

Mr. Clooney
don't want to like his films but almost always do!
I finally saw Michael Clayton last night and shock of all shocks enjoyed it. Once it was over David & were discussing why we liked it and decided upon the 70's film making it seemed to project we could totally see Robert Redford in the George Clooney role, maybe Gene Hackman and of course Max van Sydow would have been some sort of villain.

sequels
just caught the tail end of Ocean's Eleven which I find to be a cute, silly and an enjoyable film. I also enjoyed Ocean's Twelve although I find it comes off as a hey let's all hang out and make a movie again sort of movie. But by the time the got to Ocean's Thirteen good grief that one was just horrible and a waste of time even with Al Pacino! I sincerely hope they won't even consider a Fourteen

Vegas baby! Vegas!
I must admit Swingers was one of those OMG what a great movies that eh I can take it or leave it I don't really get the appeal.
Now Vegas itself I get the appeal. I am fortunate to have the opportunity to go on a buying trip there each summer. Although industry and store situation being what they were I didn't get to go last summer so I am excited about this year's trip! And in spite of what thenaysayer hubs says I do go for work 4 convention centers worth of product in fact. It doesn't all apply to our store but it is so much fun to wander the booths. So work during the day and at night it's Vegas the restaurants, shows, casinos and gambling-the grown-ups Disney. I am not exactly a card shark but blackjack is fun and in spite of slots being a waste of time I am under the (probably misguided) impression that one day I will hit it big-I did win $400 once not exactly really big but better than a slap in the face 'ya know.
Pre-C days David would come out with me but for the past several years I have been going by myself which does not bother me in the least. I actually enjoy the alone time but this year I got talked into bringing along a co-worker and I am really hoping that won't be a mistake. Oh well I suppose if it is it'll be just that much more to blog about right? positive spin right?
So have a million and one things to do before we leave on Sunday both here at work and at home not least of which is deciding the wardrobe and co-ordinating shoes. MAGIC is a major fashion event can not show up looking slubby, need to hit the bookstore long travel days need some new stuff to read plus I need to get a bag for the laptop can't leave home with out that now can we? And to top it all off C got sent home from school early with a sore throat today, no fever or anything so I am hoping it is no big deal!

it's the snappy peppy
very clever marketing idea by Snappy Tomato Pizza we got a flyer the other day & evidently they will deliver to your boat. I am assuming while it's docked they don't have a delivery boat or maybe they do? And it's not like I have a boat or anything or have ever tried their pizza, one just opened close to the house maybe we'll have to give it a try this weekend.
If you didn't get the Mel Brooks reference you should go rent High Anxiety this weekend it's one of his best films!

random Saturday
because I missed Thursday
-glad to have computer at home again although I have been accused of "using up" the laptop
-when I'm not on it the boy is I think D might just need to buy one of his own..
-yes the boy is a computer geek in the making( he could log on by himself at 2)
-the walmart is more enjoyable before 7 am on a Saturday
-I don't really call stores the walmart or the target, only in jest, but I catch myself doing it more and more. maybe the joke is on me?
-not a huge fan of working on Saturdays but at least the office should be quiet. I hope.
-I forgot my necklace this morning and it's really bugging me
-I live with boys they are forsaking Hulk for Wall-E or at least that was the plan yesterday the big green guy might just win out in the end
-I hope this one is better I did not care for the last film version..but then again not a big fan regardless. I never watched the tv show growing up although I believe my brother was a devoted watcher
-wow the last Ocean's film was really self indulgent and just well bad they could have skipped making it
-found a new hair stylist courtesy of a friend who I never actually get to see all that much but we do email
-you can generally recognize the married guys easily they will be the first to notice & compliment your hair cut
-at least the ones that are properly trained
-I am grateful for the technology so I can stay in touch with current friends and reconnect with old ones
-guess I need to actually get some work done...

spoke too soon
so D decided he would rather grill out at the house than go out for Father's Day so that is what we did, more work on him and me for that matter but the man can grill some chicken let me tell 'ya!
We had a nice leisurely day big breakfast with gifts and cards for D, then a trip to visit with his Dad and back again home where we cooked with his mom, sister & niece.
It was an entirely enjoyable weekend caught the new Indiana Jones flick which I enjoyed, went to a new restaurant I wanted to try D gave it a thumbs down I thought it was alright but I suspect not to be added to our repertoire, dinner out with the family for C's birthday at Applebees (his choice) but you know their menu and food is not half bad for what it is. I tried to push for Vinnie & Me "but that's your favorite mommy".
shopping included the spending of birthday gift cards for the boy, Chinese food was consumed, finally watched the Departed sorry Mr Scorsese I was underwhelmed, my stats homework made sense, not sure if it got easier or it just clicked for me but I hope the understanding continues...

last week a this time
I was watching Sex & The City. Girl's night out was much fun!!! With the expected crowds cosmo hour was dropped from the schedule so I did not miss anything. There have been many many articles, blogs etc written about the film so I will just leave it at
-enjoyed the film
-if you watched and enjoyed the show go see the movie it's good
-I think every woman in Knoxville was downtown to the film
-every woman was dressed to see the film it was fantastic!
After the movie we headed to the Melting Pot for an abbreviated experience-just the cheese & chocolate. Now don't get me wrong I like the entire fondue experience but cheese & chocolate are the best parts of the meal and it was a perfect way to end the evening.
I was actually out past midnight-crazy for me now that I'm in my dotage...
Tonight well tonight I am doing homework and probably it'll be past midnight before I finish....

girl's night out
looking forward to a girlie night out on the town organized by Anna of the Retro-Moderns fame
I am going to miss out on cosmo hour (damn kid and dog and the fact that we live across town) but I will meet the girls to see Sex & the City and I think a late supper after.
Out on a Friday evening why that is just crazy for me! I will be out waaay past my bed time. Been looking forward to seeing the film for awhile now but I must admit to being tired of the deconstructing and over analyzing of the series and the film and yes I did indulge myself a few months back on that but bottom line is it's fiction for crying out loud! Enjoy people it's called escapism! And I am indulging this evening.

post Meatfest
or as my brother said the day after should be called "purgefest"
Sunday was a successful party in my estimation if anyone did not get enough to eat it was their own damn fault!
Meat galore ribs, chicken, hotdogs, cole slaw, macaroni salad, potato salad, baked beans, mac & cheese, tomato salad, corn bread thingy, olives and more so very much more! Don't even get me started on the desserts super yummy stuff-there was food everywhere in that kitchen.
new blogging buddies missy & her sister and their families fit right into the fold they are a little twisted like the rest of us so I knew they would mesh well with our little crowd. And oddly enough not such new buddies at all apparently Jeni & I would have met before-about a million years ago so yes it truly is a small world after all..
Monday was a fantastically lazy day I did a little bit of clean up, D worked in the afternoon & C spent the day next door playing in the neighbor's pool with his buddy who is their grandson. It was nice I napped a little, read some of my book and re-watched the last season of Sex & the City in preparation for girls night out and the new film on Friday. Today is is back to the grind and adjusting to the summer schedule around the house day camp for C each day and summer school for me starting tomorrow-if you are a religious sort throw up a prayer or 2 for my survival probability & stats for about 8 hours a week I am going to need all the help I can get!
