it was the best ever!
but don't we say that every year? and every year it is pretty much true we had a great gaggle of folks attend and they all brought something yummy food items to eat and oddly enough for the first year that I can recall we had no meat leftover the next day, luckily the chicken leg quarters never left the fridge so David manned the grill early on Memorial Day & grilled those bad boys right up. As usual my panic was for naught & everything came together well at the end..except for my ugly pie which baked perhaps 10 minutes too long and just did not make it....

Meatfest 2010
our annual ode to all things meat was yesterday and we served up ribs, chicken, hotdogs, hamburgers, chicken & bbq pork to around 35 peoples ranging from a mere 11 weeks old to 40 somethingish. Tons of food and delish beer from Heinzelmannchen Brewery in NC and good time was had by one and all...well I had fun I hope everyone else did too. A sign of the times would be the party clearing out before 9 now that we are all grown up with kids that have bedtimes the parties do not go in the wee hours of the night like they use to although Pete did fire the grill up again around 9 for one more round of burgers & hotdogs. We know some really great people that I wish we saw more regularly and most definitely more than once a year!

Meatfest '09
prepping everything this morning, already made one grocery store run David has offered to make the next one for odds and ends as well as ice. Sickness threw a wrench into my planning but thankfully I am better but way off schedule as far as where I wanted to be organizationally(is that a word?? spell check likes it so must be). I am not doing any of the recipes I had wanted to try but 'ol standards are out in force, rice dish, corn bread, baked beans and ugly pie of course. I am totally cheating with lemonade mix but promise the real deal next summer! and last but not least meat lots and lots of meat, ribs, chicken, pork butt, hotdogs and hamburgers...
I am looking forward to a fun day with with friends even though we will be missing more than a few today..

as much as I complain about not having enough time at home
why is it I am about to climb the walls this being only day 2 at home? tomorrow will be day 3 because yes I have strep throat. Of course I do.. I have a million things to do before Sunday's annual Memorial Day Meatfest celebration and an unknown number of folks gathering to attend and I have strep throat.
UGH!
and this was the year I was going to have everything shopped and prepped before the weekend so I would not have to run around the day before like a chicken with my head cut off...ah well not so much this year maybe next?

post Meatfest
or as my brother said the day after should be called "purgefest"
Sunday was a successful party in my estimation if anyone did not get enough to eat it was their own damn fault!
Meat galore ribs, chicken, hotdogs, cole slaw, macaroni salad, potato salad, baked beans, mac & cheese, tomato salad, corn bread thingy, olives and more so very much more! Don't even get me started on the desserts super yummy stuff-there was food everywhere in that kitchen.
new blogging buddies missy & her sister and their families fit right into the fold they are a little twisted like the rest of us so I knew they would mesh well with our little crowd. And oddly enough not such new buddies at all apparently Jeni & I would have met before-about a million years ago so yes it truly is a small world after all..
Monday was a fantastically lazy day I did a little bit of clean up, D worked in the afternoon & C spent the day next door playing in the neighbor's pool with his buddy who is their grandson. It was nice I napped a little, read some of my book and re-watched the last season of Sex & the City in preparation for girls night out and the new film on Friday. Today is is back to the grind and adjusting to the summer schedule around the house day camp for C each day and summer school for me starting tomorrow-if you are a religious sort throw up a prayer or 2 for my survival probability & stats for about 8 hours a week I am going to need all the help I can get!

holiday weekend
is officially over as I sit at working, goofing off & updating my blog. We really did have a good time maybe not so restful but lots of fun. My BIL hosted a crawfish boil at my MIL's house on saturday which was lots of fun and made D & I want to have another one at our house. Like last time there was way too much food left over although my mil was smart & started taking food to her neighbors and my Sil brought a bunch to the nursing home she works at. Then as I previously blogged our cookout was loads of fun, maybe too much as I did suffer a hangover most of yesterday. D was working & C's friend was visiting his grandparents who live next door so he spent most of the day at their house swimming, playing video games and something to do with guns-not real guns just ones that seem real noisy. The after party party yesterday evening was very low-key just leftovers no new cooking which means I have to find a place for the 10 lb box of ribs sitting in my fridge. I didn't exactly mean to clean up the yard but I did. The badminton net had fallen down so I decided to put it up so we could actually use it again and that started the ball rolling as far as cleaning so we have a back yard again and we don't have to follow Oscar around making sure that he doesn't pee on chairs or grills or toys. Then this morning as I got ready for work I had a panic moment or two when I couldn't find my ring. I knew I didn't wear it yesterday but it wasn't in the only 2 places I normally keep it no I found it in the kitchen where we normally throw the cell phones & keys. Yes I guess I did drink too much vodka on sunday

old lemonade injury
my forearms still hurt from squeezing a million lbs of lemons for yesterdays lemonade...
in memoriam
of meat, specifically 21 lbs of chicken, 10 lbs of ribs, 3 lbs of hotdogs & about 20 or so hamburgers. We had our annual memorial day cookout yesterday and that's the meat count plus dips, hummus, pasta salad, baked beans, my mother's famous cornbread casserole thingy(always a big hit) and various brownies, key lime pie as well as vinegar pie(ugly pie to those in the know). It was a really great party I had a lot of fun & hope everyone else did although the kitchen this morning not so fun to look out & I am considering running out to Target to get another garbage can because the 2 we have are really full & pick-up day isn't till Thursday. Rumor has a few people coming over today to eat leftovers & cook the 2nd 10 lb box of ribs which never made it out of the fridge yesterday..
