I never win anything

except every now & again I do and over the holidays I won a facial at Spa Visage from Family Friendly Knoxville. Of course because I am horrible about making time for myself I came perilously close to letting the darn thing expire which would have been tragic because
1) I never win anything
2) I don't make time for myself
3) 40+ year old skin needs more work than it did 20 years ago
4) facials are awesome!
I am gonna go out on a limb and say a facial might be even better and more relaxing than a massage and I have gorgeous pores this morning to prove it

how do you detox?

right now the avoidance tactic seems to be my preferred method and while mostly effective I am sure it will catch up to me and in fact I suppose my current bout of sickness and the spate of aches and pains over above the norm are a direct result of stresses in my life. And they are many too many to go into here and from all facets of my life which makes for...hmmm wonder if that could be factor in my sleep problems? Safe bet who needs a sleep clinic for that diagnosis? So all one or two readers how do you de-stress? I have no free time and no extra money for a weekly massage but damn a spa day sounds like a lovely idea doesn't it?

lots to do this weekend

lots and lots my friends!
-I have a lab assignment due tonight by midnight, another one due tomorrow by midnight and a third one due by Tuesday at midnight. Plus I have to study for the lab practical on Tuesday and start organizing my notes to start work on the unknowns. I am kind of looking forward to that one we will get a test tube with 2 organisms and we will have to do all sorts of tests to figure out what microorganisms they are. Cool huh?
-Let's see school related I also have to write a short paper that is not due till the 14th but I would really rather not have to write a paper while we are in Chicago
-have to get ready to travel to Chicago
-work today & tomorrow
-would love to get a hair cut & a pedicure
-NEED to color my hair at the very least
-laundry because we always have a ton of it..where does it all come from
-Bourdain tomorrow evening!!! I am looking forward to a night out with friends
-and I am sure there are at least 1/2 a dozen things I have to do that I have not even thought about yet....

random Saturday

-looks like the baby is actually going to make his arrival this weekend luckily much closer to his due date. Niece #1 is dilated to 5cm had a few contractions yesterday but her water has not broken yet. Her husband is on his way from Oklahoma today. She was keeping her legs crossed or something to prevent giving birth last night
-it must have worked we did not get any middle of the night text messages or phone calls
-MIL is very happy she can't wait to send everyone on their way and have her house back although personally I think she will miss the chaos
-C is doing better at his school work & managed an A on a social studies project. He also did a little report on tigers for extra credit that turned out really well. Big thanks to his teacher for giving him the opportunity
-I on the other hand should have studied better for my last exam-got a C but lowest exam score does get dropped and she is giving us extra credit so I will take advantage of that.
-the lab practical I rocked-very happy with that grade!
-my brother mentioned his 9 year old(she would be niece #4 chronologically) has a email so I asked C if he would like one and signed him up this morning.
-thinking about letting him start a blog
-David's birthday was kind of quiet he was suppose to go to Florida again but with the recent job change it was not possible
-we are planning a Sunday brunch with the family but baby birthing may throw a wrench into those plans
-my birthday is next and I am thinking something girly like a spa day
-wish I was headed to blogher with missy & cathy! But I am seriously entertaining the idea of the possibility of blogher 2009. maybe.
-my house needs a good fall cleaning
-I still have way to much laundry to do
-C is trying to convince us wesss is a curse word, but as David said is is just the opposite of east. We think he might be going for wuss? but who knows C certainly doesn't

although

in an awww shucks window on D our first mother's day as a married couple he gave me a present "because someday you will be some one's mom"
I should leave it at that but of course I won't
He gave me a pepper spray key chain to ward off bad guys. nice sweet ok except for the fact he decided to test it in the apartment. just a word to the wise don't try that at home folks.. I guess I should be grateful he didn't spray me with the stuff
now as far as tomorrow I know C made me something at school and I know D made an appointment for me at Oasis day spa for the end of the month for a massage mani & pedicure and rumor has him cooking dinner for me and the MIL so we'll see......

Saturday was spa day for all

well sort of D & C went to the barber and got hair cuts(photos of C's part to follow when I download the camera)
I went and got a facial and massage and even Oscar got a bath and glands squeezed. A good day was had by all!
Then in the evening C had a date-thanks to the retromoderns for taking him to the Blue Man Group! After sushi what did D & I do? did we go to the movies and see one of several films that look pretty good right now? Why no we went home and watched Dragon Wars which is horrible and not even in the Sci-Fi network good and cheesy sort of way..maybe if Lance Henriksen had been in it...
oops forgot the amusing MIL story-so D calls his mother just to chat Sat. morning and mentions C's plans for the evening. Several hours later he gets a return phone call grilling him on just how well we know these people that are taking her grandson for the evening?
and as Anna correctly pointed out we did spend a night in the woods with them and did not get axe murdered which is a point in their favor

hooky

yes D& I played hooky yesterday-ok so we actually took vacation days but that makes us sound so responsible & all and we can't have that. After dropping the boy at school I had & facial & massage to start my day compliments of D. I had never been to Oasis but if you are in the Ktown area I highly recommend it-excellent service, I did not pay an arm & a leg and the up selling was kept to a minimum. On to a quick sushi lunch at Gohan-Ya, no alcohol please because our next stop was meeting a friend at the gun range. Yes people I have shot my first handgun, didn't drop it or kill anyone in fact the boys said I hit target about 85% of the time-I think I improved once I stopped shutting my eyes when I pulled the trigger. It was not as horrible as I thought it would be and by the time we left I was much more comfortable with the whole thing than when we went in and most likely I will go again. I must admit V's 9mm was easier to handle than D's 40cal oh look gun talk I may be a southerner after all! I know C is itching to try but he has a few years before D will take him to the range. On the upside I think I range membership is what D will get for his b-day this year. Then it was off for a pitcher of margaritas to round out the afternoon. And a movie last night Bourne Ultimatum was great or maybe it was just great to see a regular movie at the theater but I enjoyed it. C went to his grandmother's last night for an evening of chuck e cheese, pizza & dvds He has been retrieved and we are off the the ball field for his first game in the machine pitch league.
